Building a backyard theater
 

Does anyone have any advice on what projector, screen, and sound system???? I want to be able to show dvds outside in my backyard on pretty nights. Thanks, any help is appreciated

Interesting idea. My local Library used to have "Movies in the Park" and it was actually a pretty good time.

It also reminds me of when this guy bought a drive-in theater up on the Northwest side of Chicago and he showed XXX porno movies. It was hilarious, you could see the screen from the damn sidewalk. He was in buisness for 3 days. :lol:

As far as your outdoor theater...

You are talking about a lot of work each time you want to watch a movie. Screen setup, projector setup, DVD, receiver and speaker setup. Also to make it easier you would want to use a DLP projector but you will have a lot of ambient light, being outside, so you want a projector with a high lumens count, and they don't come cheap.

I guess you could have everythig setup inside and the projector projecting out a window. You could have some outdoor speakers running off the "B" side of your receiver(most receivers have this and it would only be in stereo). Your only setup would be the screen.

I'm no authority on the subject at all, but I saw a post (with pictures) awhile back at AVSFORUM.COM where a guy used an NEC LT 150 projector (inexpensive) and projected a HUGE image on the side of a house. He just used the tiny projector and a laptop computer. From the photos, the image quality looked pretty great. Hopefully someone else who knows about this particular projector can chime in.

Are they powered subs?

Are you using a sub out on your receiver?

You're right ..I'm sorry !! I have 2 powerered subwoofers1-Polk pws450 and 1- JBl pws10"....The polk is connected to my receiver - Technics SA-DX1050.(5x100...not great ..I know) I want to try to have great sound outside so, since I have 2 subs I'd like to use them. I've heard about that they can cancel out each other I'm not sure what that even means. As you can tell my audio knowledge is very limited....Thanks for ANY help.

Well you can get cross phase interference but if you space them far enough apart that shouldn't be a problem. My concern with all this is that you're gonna need weatherproof speakers that can stand up to dew, rain, sleet, etc. B&W makes excellent outdoor speakers but judging from your equipment list that's gonna probably be outta your price range. If no one here can come up with any inexpensive all weather speakers you may want to speak with someone at a pool store as many of them do this sort of thing with their pool installations.

This is the thread that Xytraguptorh was talking about on AVSForum. Unfortunately the picture of the drive-in theater is no longer there, but as I recall it was very cool. Bob Wood actually projected from within a classic car out of his LT150. Follow the thread to read more about how he did it.
