If you have it on pause or something, wouldn't heat eventually build up from the constant spinning and damage the disc? I realize this would have to be going for at least a couple days, but does anyone know?

I will move it. But my take is that unless there is something wrong with the player, or it's located in a situation with abnormally high ambients, this should not be an issue.
The layering of the disc should be able to handle the moderate temps from being played. I have left DVDs in for days spinning. Many people do this now with demos and art/fishtank display discs.

It can be in there spinning until the DVD player gives out and it won't hurt the DVD, unless by giving out the player goes up in flames.

If you let it pause too long, the laser from the DVD player will burn a hold through the DVD, then the casing to the player itself, and will actually put a tiny, tiny hole in your ceiling, and could potentially destroy a satellite. Be very careful when you hit the pause button.
