I just bought the Denon3802 for $850 shipped from

http://www.6ave.com

You have to call them up top get that price. If you dont call, the site says YOUR PRICE: $1199.

Dial extension 513 and ask for Phil and he'll hook you up for the $850.

And the best part: Theyre an authorized dealer!

friend lives near them and loves that store...He is trying to decide between 3802 and 2801.. (if he needs the extra stuff). the 2801 is under 400.. He had a 400 budget, but is considering the longer term benefit of getting the better unit.

Marantz SR-8000. I have the SR-7000 (my budget wasn't quite as high as your's) and have no complaints. Not the mention the remote controls that come with either receiver are great IMO. :D

This is what my decision boiled down to last year (well, it was the 3801). I ended up going with the Denon along with a Cinema 7 remote, since it was cheaper and I really wasn't a fan of the monstrosity that Marantz calls a remote (no offense to anyone ;)).

Denon!!!

Go with the Denon 3802....
I've installed 4 Denon 3802s, 3 Denon 3300s, and have a 4800 myself....They are beautiful! Never had a disappointed friend yet (I'm not a reseller; just help friends find solutions).

Part of the reason I went with the SR-7000 vs. the 8000 was due to the fact the SR-7000 remote was much slimmer and more managable than MKII that comes with the 8000. It stills does more than I'll ever need it to. I do agree though that MKII does seem to have a "love it/hate it" response from people.

For just a fraction over $1k, the new JVC RX-DP10VBK and Onkyo TX-DS898 A/V Receivers look great.

JVC
7 channels x 120 watts per channel
THX Ultra certified
THX Surround EX decoder
CC Converter (Compression Compensative Converter) for all 7.1 channels
192kHz/24-bit d to a Converter

Onkyo 898
THX Select cert
THX Surround EX, DTS-ES
7 channels x 110 watts
192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters

I would look into NAD as well...I was researching recievers about a year ago...and it came down to some Denon's, Yamaha's, Sony ES series, Marantz, Nakamichi, NAD....After more research...I was down to Denon, Marantz (same models mentioned above), and NAD....

Of the three...NAD is probably the best in "PURE SOUND QUALITY"...but, it is more designed for music...where as the Marantz and Denon are more designed for Movies...They all do both really well though...I ended up getting a Denon because it's easier to find on closeout than the other brands...and I found it on an awesome closeout...Still, if you're price range is under $1000...and quality comes before tons of features...then look into NAD....

I'm planning on getting the Denon AVR-4802 here shortly more than your price range but the 3802 is, and that's th emodel I 'd recommend in that price range

Copper Box is an authrozed Denon dealer, but they can't sell online so you'd have to call them

Denon 3802: $750

That's a fantastic price for the 3802

to bad they don't carry the 4802

I'm guessing this is not an authorised Denon retailer

Anybody have any experience with this retailer before?

Last year I went for 3801 to go with my Pronto. No complaints yet.
