DVD Talk Platinum Edition
If you're goning to be getting a wide hdtv set, then you'll be needing one with progressive scan. The Panny RP-91 and the Malata N996(multiregion) ar some good ones. There are gonna be some new players coming out soon...so keep an eye out for those.
Are you intrested in SACD or DVD-A?
For SACD you could get Sony 900ES
For DVD-A theres a JVC forgot model #
Also next time specify how much you're willing to spend.

i have a toshiba dvd player and i love it. look for a basic player that isn't too over complicated, and make sure it has the features to hook up to later surround sound additions [ask a knowledgable clerk, sorry...i am not up to speed on the technological lingo, but as an idiots'rule of thumb, the more input connections on the back of the player, the better].
it seems anything above $200 is fully compatible with fancy tv's and surround systems.
again, toshiba makes reliable players. good luck.
