you've got $1,000 to spend on a tv

what do you get ???
it's not me actually, it's my gf but seeing as how i will probably use it more than her - i guess it will be mine by association :p

anyhow she's been running up a list and here's what she's got so far:

Sony KV36FS13
Sony KV35S42
Panasonic CT36D31
Toshiba 36A61

anyone have any feedback on any of these tv's or any feeback on a tv not mentioned here? $1,000 must include everything to shipping and tax (where applicable). also any sites you guys might have to compare models etc would help - thanks

skar 08-28-01 10:00 AM

I like the Toshiba. It is a great value.

Where have you been finding the KV36FS13 for under $1000 including taxes and shipping? It usually runs $1300+ tax and shipping. I've seen prices in the sub-$1100 range but never sub-$1000.

qbert 08-28-01 10:13 AM

sorry bushdog - won't happen again, i promise

skar, dunno i'll ask the gf i think she said she saw it on 800.com (?) - thanks for the input though :)

skar 08-28-01 11:06 AM

Probably not 800.com

Go with the Wega. Sam's Club has the lower end 36" 2001 model for $999.95 + tax. Does the 16X9 mode so you can really enjoy DVD's.

in store not online.

hello na-na 08-28-01 11:59 AM

the toshiba is $1011 (includes shipping) at abt.com.
abt.com doesn't charges taxes. i forget why.

if you live in nyc, the toshiba is $926 (includes shipping and taxes) from j and r world. it would probably cost a hundred or two more if you don't live in the NYC area. :)

Great deal on Toshiba 36A61, $769.99:

across state lines + bought on internet = no tax (or so i think)

i don't think that is neccessariily true.
there are other websites that are out of state (for me) and still charge corresponding state taxes....

now who's the one low on brains?

Some companies have a presence in many or all states so they have to charge sales tax.

qbert,

You might want to check the reseller ratings in regard to xtremeshopper before ordering. They are rated slightly above dirt level. Just an fyi.

$789 shipped to NY for the Toshiba

thanks autopilot and guildda
i'm trying to push the gf to go for the wega b/c it's got the 16:9 ratio thingy, but she's hesitant about shelling out a couple hundred more for that tv vs. the toshiba. in any event it's down to those two i'm guessing, please tell her how important 16:9 is as i think she does not fully understand this no matter how much i try to tell her. :D

hello na-na 08-30-01 09:47 AM

it's not only that, qbert, the main thing that is holding me back from the wega, are all the stories (from dvd talk and from others alike) of people who had to go through multiple wegas before getting one that didn't have any problems (like discoloration, picture distortion, white spots on the pictures, etc etc)

if i can be convinced that this isn't a highly recurring problem, i think i would most likely go with the wega (and make YOU shell out the extra $$---. Don't crap in your pants, I was just kidding!)

:D

The Sony's 16x9 mode is nice, but it depends upon how much time you will spend watching DVDs. I imagine that other TV makers will soon emulate it.

Try and take her to a dealer where she can see a demo of it. You can also do the bribe thing on her, "but honey we can cuddle on the couch and watch movies at home if we get the Sony". This actually works pretty well. -smile-

I do have to add that for the additional price one pays for a Sony, the 90 labor warranty coverage is a crime.

Hehe. It worked for me...got a new speaker setup using this logic. :D Now I'm always being asked, "hey wanna go to video store."

FYI, Goodguys online store is having a 10% off of $200+sale on most items until Tuesday. Free shipping and no tax.

Go through the shop link at the top of the page.
