Sony Wega or wait

Looking at rebuilding my old HT to one that is DTS. I am looking first at getting a new tv that has componet and S-vid. My wife likes the Sony while I think the price is high. Reccommendations on a 32". Sony or not to Sony? Also is there a DTS decoder box that can be added to an already existing receiver or is that my next expense? TIA Rick

The Sony Wega are great sets. They will do he anamorphic squeeze on DVDs gaining you up to 33% more resolution compared to your current set. I just got a new 27" (biggest my space will permit) and have been extremely happy with it so far.

As for adding a DTS decoder, the main question we need to know is if your receiver is DD/DTS ready or DD with 5.1 channel inputs. If so then you are in luck (sort of). DTS decoders will run you about 200 bucks for a stand alone unit.

I say sort of in luck because at that price it probably makes more sense to upgrade your entire receiver though and get a new one that has DD/DTS decoding built in. Alot of the older pro-logic DD ready receivers had lower power going to the rear speakers because pro-logic did not call for the full-range surround channels, which could leave you wanting more once you do get DTS.

Let us know your exact situation so we can better help you out.

SONY Wega 36"

I'm extremly happy with my Sony Wega 36" set and in England we pay much higher prices £2500.00 is the recommended price over here - I did not, however, pay the full price - I managed to get mine from a discount store. We don't have HDTV over here as yet - whether it will eventually hit the UK I'm not too sure. We do however have a better system - PAL rather than NTSC!! :)

Most of the Wegas with the SILVER cabinets have the uneven brightness problem. The ones with the newer CHARCOAL (gray) cabinets do not. Save yourself the chance of hating your set and go for the newer model. They are more money, but well worth it.

I got the Sony Wega Grey cabinet one and the back fiber has changed color into white because of heat.I told them to replace the cover because it looks ugly now with 2 bright spots on each side of the TV :grunt:

Anyone have model numbers..... I'm looking at the 32 in. Wega (Non-HD) I believe the KV-32FS13 is the newest..but it seems to be silver. What would be the model # for the newer grey one?

Also, does anyone know the difference between this one and the KV-32FS12 which I believe is older?
