weak LFE on DTS tracks?

i don't know if anyone can help me, but i just recently set up my home theater and i've noticed something in regard to my DVD's with DTS soundtracks. it seems that on every one that i've tried (Seven, Gladiator, Die Hard, etc) the LFE channel is much more apparent on the DD soundtrack than on the DTS soundtrack. my sub rattles the room with DD and is barely audible with DTS tracks it seems. any ideas?

(i have a Pioner DV-414 DVD player and a Harman Kardon AVR110 receiver)

You're not the only one. I experience the same with my Yamaha receiver and Klipsch Reference speakers.

I guess what you need to so is raise the DTS LFE bars higher in your receiver.

Try the DTS version of the Haunting

It may make you want to think again!

I believe it's a hardware issue with the DTS setting on your H/K receiver. I believe it's defaulted 10db too low. Go into your setup menu and adjust the DTS LFE pad 10db.

Some receivers have seperate LFE pads for DD and DTS. I believe that Yamaha and Denon have them also. Pioneer doesn't so this isn't a problem for me.

well i checked the receiver. there are separate levels for the DD and DTS LFE channel...though both were at 0dB. I cranked the DTS up to +10 and it sounds much better, though still slightly less than DD (which is still at 0). nevertheless i am satisfied for now.

Yes, usually in the cases where there are seperate LFE pads, the DTS should be set to 10db higher. I think it has something to do with the DD decoders.

Most of the time they are both in the middle with different scales (-20 =>0 for DD, -10 => +10 for DTS)....

My examples may be switched but that's the general picture.
