How many Wegas did you have to buy?

Hey guys. I'm about to return my second KV27FS13 and pick up a third. The first one had color issues and the second one has major geometry problems. I know how to access the service menu, but the problems could not be fixed. I'm just wondering... is this common? How many Wegas did you have to buy before you were happy with one?

Just picked up the very same model about one month ago (my first Wega) and had to return the first one due to a picture that "drooped", for lack of a better word, down on the left side. Probably a picture tube that was damaged during shipping. My second one was fine, and I couldn't be happier with it. I bought this TV strictly for 16:9 enhanced option. This model was the least expensive way ($537) for me to view anamorphic DVDs in full resolution.

Anyway, I hope you have better luck with yours.

Only 1 KV27FS16. Perfect picture and geometry except for a quarter-sized darker area in a corner. Not a big annoyance.

Damn. I just struck out with number 3. I wish I'd kept the first one. It had a slight red tint on the left sight of the screen and slight green on the right side, but they were only notcieable really on a white background. The geometry on it was basically perfect. Anyway, numbers 2 and 3 both had really obvious geometry issues that couldn't be solved with adjustments in the service menu. The third one had already been returned once by somebody, I'm assuming for the same reason I'm taking it back. So I'm going to try 1 more tomorrow and hopefully that'll work. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

At least you're getting to bulk up carrying those things back and forth.

After my brother's trials, my sister bought a JVC flat screen. Good luck!

on on # 2, that's because I bought a 27 inch and exchanged it for 32. Had it for almost a year without any problems.

Dropouts on MALATA N996 during DTS Red Violin.

Didn't happen during T2 DTS at all, but on this title, the sound will drop out for a split second every 10 to 15 minutes. This has been reported on other titles.

The DTS soundtrack for this title never dropped out while playing in my Toshiba.

GRRRRR!!!! I thought #4 was good. It had acceptable geometry problems. It was bad out of the box but I was able to eliminate all but 2 small bows using the service menu. We watched U-571 last night and it looked great. Unfortunately, U-571 is composed almost entirely of dark scenes. We watched O Brother tonight and the opening shot of the white sky revealed 2 thick nasty pink lines going down the right and left sides of the screen about an inch in. For the rest of the movie I couldn't help but notice how everything in those positions on the screen was tinted red. Ugh... I think I'm going to tell Sony to take one out of a box, have it tested and calibrated by a technician, and bring it to me when they pick up this one. It's ridiculous to keep borrowing friends' trucks to return this thing over and over again. Anyone think I'll have luck with Sony customer service?

Sometimes you just hit a point where it will never be right, either due to the product's defects or your ability to accept them. I know, I've been there and gave up on a product because it wasn't perfect and I finally realized that it never would be. You may not like it, but you really should consider something else at this point.

I have to agree. It sound like it's time for you to dump Sony and look for an alternative.

well, i realize that the wega won't be perfect... i don't expect it to be. And the picture is stunning. but i've seen friends' wegas that have better geometry and don't have any discoloration. So far I've had 2 Wegas with horrible geometry and 2 with pink lines down the sides. I KNOW that there are better units out there... I just keep getting stuck with the lemons. The only comparable unit I'd buy is the Samsung TSK2792F, but it's considerably more expensive, and I don't have that much money to spend right now.
