I might be able to pickup a Sherwood-Newcastle receiver pretty cheep this week so I have a 7.1 and 6.1 question.

Do the speakers have to match? I have a Polk cs245i center speaker, should I get the same for the rear in a 6.1 Setup? And for 7.1 should the 2 center speakers match the rears? (I have Polk R10's)

It's generally known that it's the very best to use the same brand for all speakers. However, a center speaker should only be used for the front center. I'm not quite sure what you mean with a 6.1 or a 7.1 setup but I assume you mean one or two rear speakers (there is no such thing as 7.1 yet, unless you talking about Lexicon's own surround mode to name one). IMO using one rear speaker does not do the rear channel justice since THX specifies two speakers for surround (although it they are mono, some phase differences do occur). Use the same type as your surround speakers.

I thought so too?? I have never seen or heard anything I just assumed. How necessary is it? I mean for crying out loud, when will it end? When they build one continuous speaker that is circular and you sit in the middle? Round.1?
