Best place to buy speakers?

i've delt with crutchfield in the past and love their help and free return policy, but they are a bit more expensive because of this

circuit city is also a bit more expensive, but they (at least the one near me) has a policy where u can return any speakers you but within a year for 100% towards the purchase prize of better speakers...thats a nice thing cause i could constantly upgrade

any other places have cool promotions, etc

or just a place you highly reccomend?

Crutchfield and Circuit City don't carry many or any speakers that are very competitive at their price points.

You'll be better off checking out your local audio retailers -- check your phone book, and see if anybody carries Paradigm, PSB, Energy, Klipsch, and B&W. That'd be a great place to start.

You should be able to negotiate for 10 to 15% off of MSRP at these places.

What's your budget, how many speakers are you looking for, and how big is your room?

Note that you probably won't get asked the last question in Circuit City, and it's pretty critical in determining what will work for you.

my room is probably 15' x 20'

how much i wanna spend depends on a few factors...if i can get financing (for example crutchfield can split the bill up into 4 payments) i'd be willing to spend like $700

i wanna replace my fronts, surrounds, and center. i dont need the sub because i already bought a jumbo 12" 200w 6 months ago that i love...

there's not many businesses that sell high-end electronics in the south end of rhode island

About the only thing I would recommend from Circuit City or the like is JBL, Polk, and Infinity. Although you'd have to pay twice what you'd pay for PSB, Paradigm, Klipsch, or B&W to get the same performance....If you can locate an A/V store within 45 miles, it's worth the drive. The listening rooms in A/V stores are generally more adaptable than the ones at Circuit City...

check around at your local audio specialty stores. I've gone to two in my area (with equipment varying in price from $400 / pr to $15,000 / pr.) and both have had their own financing options if that is an issue for you.

You're going to get the best quality stuff and by far the best service from small shops who know their equipment. You might well even find things in your price range that will blow away the competition found in large chain stores.

Here are a few reasonably priced brands to check out:
Paradigm, B&W, Monitor Audio, and NHT (not quite up to par with the others, IMHO)

can you help me find a good audio store in southeast new england? my phone book lists NOTHING under audio dealers...and a quick search in yahoo's yellow pages also listed the first store as being like an hour away!

I don't know New England at all, but there are probably others on the board who can help you. You might even consider posting a separate thread for shop recommendations.

My guess is that you can find several shops in Providence. You might want to check there.

Head over to Paradigm's web site and use the dealer locator to find good audio dealers in your area. It turned up a dealer near me that I was previously unaware of.

Give the yellow pages a shot -- look under "Stereo", you'll be surprised
to find out how many audio stores are around a town or two away!

Also try http://www.stereo411.com click the "Dealer" tab and enter your
zip code.
