An external line doubler for my Sony XBR250 36 inch tv
 

Ok, here's my situation. I bought my Sony Wega XBR250 36 inch at the beginning of last year, not knowing that the newer models would handle 480p and 1080i.

I love my television though, and would never get rid of it. However, the idea of buying a line doubler does appeal to me. Would I bennefit from buying an external line doubler?

And, considering I know little about this, I need some help understanding how the process would work.

I have my Sony dvd player...and the ouput cables go to the input on the line doubler, then from the line doubler, they ouput to the tv? Is that right?

I need your honest opinions here, would I benefit from this? If so, which brand would you suggest and how much can I expect to spend?

You are not going to benefit very much from a line doubler on a 36" T.V. You would really only see a slight bit of difference on an RPTV with an external line doubler.

If I'm not mistaken, you would need a TV with progressive-scan inputs -- but your TV is not capable of progressive scan. Therefore, you couldn't benefit from a line doubler because you couldn't connect it to your TV.

Personally, I would need a line doubler for a 36" TV. I hate scan lines. And an RPTV must have a line doubler, either internally or externally (or one in the DVD player). The cheaper big sets look like crap because they don't have one. And better sets are distinguished by the quality of their doublers.

But I think DigIt is correct about needing progressive inputs.
