Looking for good DVD player around $200. Any Suggestions?

My friend is looking for a good DVD player for around $200. Has anyone been doing research on this price range, that could lend a few suggestions? Thanks in advance

No, no decoder needed. Thanks, I will look into it. I just saw the Pioneer 434 (progressive scan) will that make a difference on a 4 year old 35" trinitron? Anyone know?

no it won't I believe. the progressive scan I believe needs a newer model that accepts it. Also, I believe the 434 may not be true progressive scan. There is a new sony that has lowered the cost of true PS players.

also, the sony NS300 has no decoders. save a few bucks...(oops above it is the NS400 not 4000). My brother raves about his 400 and a couple of coworkers of his did the same PM when they heard how cheap he got it.

it's just so easy to PM at sears in case no where else has a good deal near you and there is INSTANT gratification (getting it ASAP)

Looked and saw the NS300 is 155 area + shipping online...(let's go digital and pc4nothing have it there- both my brother and me have used those stores to PM dvd players and tvs at sears) They may add shipping.

I believe the new generation sony's MAY be e CD-R capable. Also, sony has had the most reliable firmware of late.

I believe that to be an error on Amazon's part. The DVP-NS300S does not support CDR/W. The 400, 600 and 700 models do support CDR/W but hust as a word of notice if it is important is that they do not read SVCD (I haven't checked VCD because I do not particularly care for its minimal bitrate and therefore don't own any). None of our 300 models have the CDR/W sticker labels like the 400/600/700 models do, nor have it as a listed feature on the Sony dealer web site where as the other 3 do have it listed...

I got the Panasonic RV-31. It has dual-lasers and supports CD-R/CD-RW/MP3. It has component outputs. It is very good at reading tough discs. An excellent value at $165-$190.

The Pioneer DV-343 is a great player for $160-200. Great picture and sound. It has component outputs and lots of setup options. It also has a one year warranty on P&L, while many in this price range only have 90 days/one year.

It's also dual laser and can play CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, VCD.
