Coaxial vs. Optical Audio cable?

Heyo,

I was wondeing if there was any difference between using a coaxial cable and an optical one? Any advantages? Thanks.

Do a search for "optical" and Im sure you will see much information.

The short answer to your question is "No." The only advantage of optical cable is that you will not get electronic distortion. A coax digital cable may or may not pickup this distortion, but unless you have a sensitive system, it will not matter.

I would reccommend going with optical if you don't have a power conditioner to reduce the distortion levels you are getting. However Fiber optical cable is a lot more prone to being broken and digital coaxial is a bit cheaper.

No.
Digital is digital, ones and zeros don't get messed up. but DO invest in a highly sheilded coax if you are running it along with other wires.

THe Optical will not distort as much over long ranges, but if you get a slight kink in the optical, you are screwed. Where as coax will still recover unless there is a split in the wire.
