This is very strange. I use the optical digital in's on my pioneer elite 37something for DVD and PS2 sound input.
Used to work great. Just came back for a few days after 7 weeks in asia and now NO sound on the digital ins.
I did try :
Check tape2 monitor was off
switch to one of other digital ins
check the configuration in setup
try the ps2 sound in / switch dvd and ps2 etc
remove power from unit for 3 hours
Nothing works
Any ideas please? Is there a "reset to factory settings" somewhere? Could not finde anything in the manual.
ANY ideas are welcome! Thanks!!!!

Bummer! The optical on the 37 produces great sound. Did you buy the receiver online, or from a local merchant? Mine came from a local merchant, and he'll stand behind it or advise me what I've done wrong.
My first thought was to check the setup, but you've already done that. What about the cable itself? I understand they're pretty fragile. Try another one and see if yours is bad.

Did you check the setup in both the receiver and DVD player?
If that is alright, then I second the idea that you should try another cable.
Did you try the composite cables? Are you getting any sound with these? If you your receiver/dvd has digital cable output, you can use a RCA cable to test it. This may tell you if there is something wrong with the receiver.
If there is a factory default setting, it should be under the setup menu, but I have a Denon and my default settings are not digital.
If all else fails, hopefully you stll have a warranty and try calling the merchant or Pioneer and ask them.

Yes I think I did check everything in both receiver and dvd player.. both have opticals enabled etc.
I also tried the coax input from the dvd player, no luck either..
Its an online purchase so no official pioneer warranty, but I'll try the dealer in CA - maybe better luck.
Sigh
