Hello,
I don't know too much about home theater, but I'm looking into buying a DVD player and a TV perhaps. I'm just looking for some good websites that provide in-depth explination of the different audio/video inputs and outputs (along with pictures please) and recommendations on features to look for in a DVD player. Also, preferably looking for non-commercial websites, but anything would be useful. Thanks.

Try http://www.audioreview.com and http://www.hometheaterforum.com, lots of good info.
You may want to search the web for Audio Magazine websites. Commercial sites such as sony.com and toshiba.com have some good general info too - although they are biased to their products.

I second http://www.hometheaterforum.com. AVSForum is a more advanced website. http://www.Hometheatertalk.com is a good one as well, but it's a more intermediate website.

This is a magazine's website. They have product reviews, links to manufacturers, etc.
I subscribe to the magazine, and have found a lot of useful information.

edclem, keep in mind that most Forum sites have a FAQ where most basic tutorial type info is very condensed and easy to access. So don't ignore a forum site because you think you'll have to dig and search for what you want.

not sure why you want noncommercial sites, but if you can get past that bias, the following sites have generally sound information:
http://www.theperfectvision.com
http://www.widescreenreview.com
http://www.audiorevolution.com
