I have cheap fronts/center and receiver/DVD-Toshiba 6109c. I need to get some surround sound speakers. I am looking to spend under $50. Where can i get the best quality speakers for that price? online or B&M is fine. I saw some KLH speakers at Fry's for $59 that sounded alright. but i was looking to pay even less then that or pay that much for better quality speakers.
can anyone help me out?
Thanks,

Stay away from KLH. They are not worth the box they come it. I would say go to Best Buy or Circuit City and find some speakers in your price range, then try to find them cheaper online at ebay, ubid, or another online store.

You can find a good list of online electronic stores at http://www.audiosurvey.com , http://www.bizrate.com and yahoo shopping.

I use some KLH 970A speakers with my computer system. They are 3 way speakers and they sound a hell of alot better then the ones that came with my computer. I don't think I would enjoy replacing my Paradigms in the HT with them though

You can get these at Best Buy for $20 a pair and that includes all wires and mounting hardware!

If you're going to skimp...really skimp!

If you just want a temporary fix until you can get some 'real' surround speakers go for something under $50. You can get some two ways with a 5 1/2" woofer from Radio Shack for around $40 I think.

Save your money and get some quality bookshelf speakers that you'll be able to enjoy for a few years.

Check out http://www.ubid.com. Sometimes you can pick up some decent Celestion or KEF speakers for about 50 shipped or less.

Check out hifi.com.
Also, check the reconditioned items they sell on eBay under the seller name hifi.com; some really good deals can be found. The Ensamble IV HT set I got from them through eBay are quite nice and they were in perfect condition - I'd call them factory new but they are reconditioned.

Every few weeks either Goodguys or CircuitCity has the Polk Audio R10 for $35-50ea. These are great surrounds. Last week we bought a pair at Goodguys for $69. They even have a keyhold for easy wall mounting. Just wait a week or two and the deal always gets repeated.

You won't have to replace them, they are much better than any BB throw away speakers you could buy. They may even sound better than your fronts and then you could use your old fronts as surrounds.
