I recently switched power amps to my 2 passive subs since I needed alot more power. I moved from 120 watts a channel to 300 watts a channel which is still a little low, but it will have to do.

I have run into a problem though. The LFE output on the receiver and the input on the amp are too low. The amp also has no gain control. For everyday living it is bearable, but for those times I want to bring down the walls(which is often) the voltage just isn't enough.

The only way I can get enough output is to put my speakers on "small"(since they can't handle that much bass), crank the bass knob all the way and put the LFE level in the receiver menu to +12dB. This way sucks since I am sure the bass control on the receiver is giving a boost only to 30 HZ and below or something like that.

Now to my question:

Is there a device I can run inline with my LFE output to increase the voltage?

I would like to run from the LFE output on the receiver to a signal booster/pre-amp? with a gain control to boost the voltage and then out to the amp.

I really don't want to spend alot(under $200), but I think this would definately solve my problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Jumbo

Here are some output/input voltage specs from the amp and receiver manuals also:

Receiver:
Output from the subwoofer/LFE is 1.0 volt at 2.2k/ohms.

Amplifier:
Input is 1.6 volts at 2.0k/ohms for 200 watts @ 8 ohms.

I think if I were able to boost the LFE signal .6 more volts to reach the amps rated input I would finally be happy

I used a Radio Shack SA-155 between my Denon and Carvin amp.I bought the ButtKicker & Carvin amp combo and they said that a cheap way to do this was with the SA-155.It only cost $60.00.It is a mini intregated amp with a volume control.Hope this helps

I have an idea:

1.) Buy my Onkyo ES600.
2.) Use it in Bypass mode.
3.) Enjoy blissful remotely controlled volume and a cool learning remote.

Shameless, I know. Sorry.

brilon's suggestion makes a lot of sense, too, and actually got me thinking about my ES600.

Here's a link to the Radio Shack integrated amp.

I would guess that my Onkyo would sound more neutral and comes with a cool remote. But then, the Radio Shack amp will come with a warranty and be more flexible if you ever want to use it for something else.

I think I will give the Radio Shack one a try to see if it works, but it seems that it will do the job.

Thanks for the help

BTW, Steve what is your asking price?

I tried the Radio Shack one, but it didn't work.

The output was way too high and it just blew the fuse in my amp everytime I turned it on.

I am getting some new surround speakers this week so I am just going to re-calibrate my main spekers a few dB lower than they were before to compensate for the lower sub output.

Thanks again for the help
