I watch regular old cable TV on my 27FS12. Unfortunately the cable connection in that room isnt so great. Overall the picture is OK, but I noticed that when watching hockey or basketball games (go sixers) the rink or court is really irritatingly bright. I'm sure that this is beause of the connection because every once in a while the correct colors will flash on and then disappear.

Anyway, I've tried adjusting all of the settings but have not yet hit on the right combination. It doesnt matter to me if everything else is a little bit off (a little), I just need to reduce the brightness of the court since it takes up most of the screen and is very bright. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, what exactly is the 'Color' setting?

Depending on your model, you should have several setting modes to use.
I have two that I use a lot. One is the Movie mode, which I calibrated using Video Essentials. All DVD viewing is done in movie mode. If you have not done so, I highly recommend either renting, borrowing, or buying the Video Essentials disc to set up your set. It will make a world of difference.

The other one I use is the Sports mode. Brighter, SVM on low, a couple of other tweaks.

Vivid mode is just plain suck. Waaaaaaaaay too bright, SVM on full, "sharpness" on full. Yuck. I never use it (but could use it as a second calibrated mode...I just haven't needed it)

Oh yeah, I was wondering if that was what he meant. I couldn't remember that it was called color. I use just movie and regular (if that's what it's called). Not vivid or sports. But I use mine in a darkened room.

Standard and Movie on my KV-32FV16 and the movie setting is great for DVD's.

I have calibrated the Movie setting (although only using the THX Optimode, haven't yet rented Video Essentials), but all of my other settings are very different from the factory settings. Could someone please suggest some basic picture, brightness, sharpness, color setting combinations to try?

Sorry. I have the KV-27FS16 and I don't know if it's similar enough for things like brightness and colors. But you might try sharpness just short of 50%, which is where mine is. Your settings will probably be nowhere near the factory settings.

But this method of adjustment will really not do you any good. Get Avia if you can, V.E. if you must, ASAP.

You can probably rent either Avia or Video Essentials somewhere in your area - if not, you can rent them from online rental stores - I know that http://www.cafedvd.com has one, if not both.

Be sure that the piece of blue film is included with the rental - you'll need that...
