Ran thru a Best Buy in NH yesterday and found the RCA model SP9978 Home Theatre Speaker Package on clearance (read: no longer being sold by BB) for $79. Not open box; they are just trying to get rid of them. Figured with a low cost receiver they might be OK for a setup in the kids room or at our beach house.
Here's what the BB card says (verbatim):
Shielded two-way center channel speaker
4" woofer and 2" cone tweeters
Sheilded left & right main speakers
3" full rang surround speakers
50 watt powered subwoofer
6 1/2" subwoofer
There are no power ratings on the box (but most other HTS speaker sets in BB didn't have them either), so I have no idea how much they can/will handle.
Are these things any good for this price? BB didn't have the original price anywhere, but the service plan was priced at 59.99, so I'm guessing these things weren't too cheap to begin with. I surfed the web for any info (rca.com, bestbuy.com, review sites, Google usenet search, etc.) and came up empty. There are a very few references to a 9978 speaker and receiver package, but it was mentioned only in passing.
Opinions please???
TIA.

I had a RCA speaker set-up when I first got my Reciever. They are not bad speakers.Obviously , You get what you pay for.I have since upgraded my speakers ,but I would use them as a second set-up elsewhere in the house.
Probable good deal for the purposes of a kids room or summer house.
