I just received an Onkyo TX-DS838 receiver for free from a friend. I wanted to know if anybody knows if this receiver supports 5.1 and DTS. I do not have the manual and the only thing I can set it for is Dolby Surround Pro Logic. It has, which almost looks like a light, a little thing that says AC-3 on it. If anybody can help or let me know where I can find a manual online would be great.
Thanks

Yes, that receiver includes DD. Here are the basic specs for the TX-DS838:
- 100 Watts per channel in stereo
- 90W x 3 & 50W x 2 in surround
- Built in Dolby Digital Decoder (AC3)
- Dual Motorola 24-Bit chip
- 12 surround modes
- Multi-room and Multi-source
- Non-NFB(Negative Feedback) power amplifier
- Discrete power amp circuitry for all five channels
- Preprogrammed RI compatible remote
You can find out more at: http://www.onkyousa.com/show_feature...rs&m=TX-DS838#
The manual for that model is not available for download; you can, however, order one from their site. You might also look to see if any of the available manuals cover products that are close to yours.

I have the 939 and it doesn't have DTS. You can always do what I did by adding the Millennium 2.4.6 decoder if there is preamp inputs (jumpers across preamp-in & amp-out) at the back of your 838. To select DD I use my surround mode to set to 'AC3 THX 5.1' on DD digital incoming signals.
