Hi,
I'm considering buying a DVD player that plays MP3s. How does this work? Do I just copy the tracks to my CD player and burn the CD, or do I have to put them in a special directory?

My experience is that it varies a bit between players, there isn't a standard.
Some DVD players have no problem reading long filenames, others need the 8.3 or will only display 8.3
Some DVD players need them all to be in the root directory of the CD and won't/can't look in subfolders while others will scour a disc and let you navigate to folders play mp3's.
Usually there's no special directory or anything for a DVD player to recognize it as mp3's, it should pick that up from the spin analysis.

Yep you just burn them onto a cd-r and they play just like that. The only thing I am not sure of is if a table of contents is created or not. My guess is that it reads the song information from the ID when it is ripped to MP3.

I have to agree with renaldow on this one. As far as I know it depends on the player. I have an Apex 703 and it plays MP3s but only if it is burned in ISO9001 format. I don't know if other DVD/MP3 players have the same problems. Also some players reads CD-R but not CD-RW. So there are a lot of issues out there that you have to watch out for. Do some research before making your purchase.
