I have a Toshiba 56 inch widescreen hdtv and want to buy a progressive scan dvd player. I currently have a sony non-progressive player and I am happy with the picture, but want to upgrade to the progressive player. Your input on which one to buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, HL

Go with the Toshiba SD-6200 dual tray prog. scan player. I bought it online a couple months ago for just under $500 and don't regret it one bit. A great player...

There's a lot of buzz about the Panasonic RP-91. That would be my first choice of under $1000 players until I hear more word on the Kenwood and Philips (Faroudja) players.

Hannibal, sounds like your in the same position as me. I'm chomping at the bit to get one, but all the advice i'm getting is to wait just a little longer. new models, at new lower price points are due soon. sony in particular has one due w/ a msrp of $400. plus i'm hearing talk about a unit from from a HK manufacturer called skyworth, for under $300, that uses the Faroujda(sp?) chip for de-interlacing which is supposed to be superior to the chip in the new denon 2800 (was looking forward to that one, but it looks to have been somewhat of a bust). i'm tempted to try to get a 6200, but you and i both know something better & cheaper is just around the corner. in this case thats not just a cliche, they really are close.
i'm gonna try to hold out a little longer, but if you find a good price on the 6200, well....

although it's a bit dated (dec. 2000) there's a pretty good summary of progressive scan players over at Secrets of Home Theater: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/maste..._toc_main.html

and also a fairly in depth reivew of the Tosh 6200.

I agree with you. Prices should be going down shortly and I think I can wait a little longer.

I agree I am holding out for a changer that will play dvd audio/video and be progressive with 3/2 pulldown. And SACD would be nice as well.
