Hi,

Audio Portion

My DVD has both Digital Out and Analog 5.1 Out. My Amp has both Digital In and Analog 5.1 too.

So how should I connect to get the best sound? Both Digital and Analog?

My Mini Hifi do not have a digital in but have a Analog 5.1 In. Should I connect my DVD digital in to my amp and from my amp analog out to my mini hifi?

Video Portion

My TV has both Component In and SVideo In jack. Should I connect my DVD direct to my TV using which connection to get the best picture?

Okay your mini hifi system is what is known as Dolby Digital Ready, that means in order for you to enjoy DOlby Digital you'll need either an external decoder or a DVD player with a built in decoder. I'm guessign that since your DVD player had a 5.1 output it has a built in decoder.

So you will want to use the 5.1 audio connection - I think its a total of 6 RCA cables.

As for the video connection, use the component video connetion wich is 3 RCA cables.

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

So do you mean that I connect the DVD 5.1 to my Mini Hifi?

That's to say that I do not need the connect to my amp using the optical cable from my dvd and still get the 5.1 channel directly from my mini hifi if I just connect my dvd directly to my minihifi. Will there be any quality difference?

It really confused me of this digital in and 5.1 analog in term. is it that with digital in, you need not have 5.1 in or they both complement each other.

Last but not least, I need not use my amp anymore. Right? I will connect from my dvd to minihifi using the 5.1 analog audio cable, consists of 6 cables and also from my dvd to my tv using the component cable, consists of 3 cables. This will give me the best picture and best sound performance!!

You only need one or the other. You would use the 6-channel 5.1 connection if you wanted to use the decoder built into your player; you would use the digital connection if you wanted to use the decoder in your receiver. The only difference is "where" the audio gets decoded -- player or receiver -- but either way you get digital sound.
