The new Sound & Vision has some miniDV cameras in the back that say they're progressive & have 16x9/widescreen modes for recording (plus PCM digital stereo). Is the 16x9 compatable with 16x9 tvs? I didn't see mention of component-out either? Any other suggestions?

im also in the market for a camcorder and noticed the same things. (i have a 16:9 TV) Some camcorders have 'progressive scan' recording - which I was under the impression that in order to pass progressive you needed a component connection to your monitor. Also some of the camcorders have "16:9" ability - however I've heard that this is only an effect achieved by cutting out the top and bottom of the picture, and not using anamorphic conversion.

So, i really don't know the absolute answers to these questions but maybe someone else does...

btw, im looking at getting the canon elura 2 minidv, which has both of these 'features'...

What's your price range?

Not really sure of the price range, but I'm guessing most cameras will be around $1,000.
