Battlestar Galactica: Season One - HD DVD

Right on schedule, Columbia House now carries:

4791406 Battlestar Galactica: Season One - HD DVD $74.96

(counts for three fulfillments)

I set up a three fulfillment account last month just for this, so...

Oooh I really want to get this but with shipping blah out of my price range. Wish I could get my app accepted at ch.com. grrrrrrr.

The shipping is mostly covered by ordering a regular two disc SE as a freebie. But, yes, unless it is used as a fulfillment, this set is pretty expensive. As a fulfillment, it is a decent deal:

Assumptions: DVDs are worth the average membership cost of $4.80 each; BOGOF code with free shipping (for the regular DVDs)

Enrollment: 6 x 49¢ = $2.94 (6 DVDs)
Fulfillment: $74.96 + $7.99 (shipping) + (free DVD) + (free shipping) = $82.95 (1 HD DVD set + 1 DVD)
Total cost of the membership: $2.94 + $82.95 = $85.89 (1 HD DVD set + 7 DVDs)
Relative cost of the HD DVD set: $85.89 - (7 x $4.80) = $85.89 - $33.60 = $52.29

$52.29 is a decent price for the new release BSG:S1 HD DVD set, IMHO.

Ya it is. I'll probably get it when I open a new account. I frakking love the show, let's just hope they release seasons 2 and 3 on HD-DVD as well.

A lot of people are having issues with the packaging and lots of scratched discs...may be something to consider as far as where you purchase this from. I know CH will send replacements at no cost, but its always been a pain for me...and dont they require you to send the original back first before they even ship the replacement? I cant remember...

Anyhow, heres a link to the AVS forum thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...943171&page=11. Also has pictures of the set too...I can see why there are complaints. Im still undecided what to do, although I really want this set yesterday :).

^I've had mine ship; I'll let you know how it arrives.

I've certainly done my share of swapping sets at Columbia House to get undamaged ones. They do send the replacement immediately and the return label is sent separately. The replacement set is billed and the billing refunded when the damaged set is received by Columbia House.

I've had to swap discs to make a perfect set in the past with such things as Babylon 5. I guess I'll hope for the best.

Hard to believe, but my BSG HD DVD set arrived loose in a big enrollment box and the packaging was undamaged with no loose discs. BUT, disc 5 has circular scratches from the factory, as many others have reported. No way a HD DVD player will handle a circular scratch. Before dealing with Columbia House I think I'll e-mail Universal. They really ought to be the ones to replace these damaged discs.

If anyone else gets this, be advised that you have to rotate the discs to get them off, or put them on, the rubber spindles. Easy enough to do, but you have to know how.
