CH Special Club Price DVD's

"Special Club price" ("SCP") DVD's make excellent "lead" DVD's for sales codes (such as the current BOGO code), because the "regular" price of the DVD is the basis for determining the "equal or lesser value" DVD for the freebie. Also, we are coming up on 12/31 - the deadline for Fun Cash usage and you can use Fun Cash towards the SCP of a DVD. Fortunately, it does not appear that activating Fun Cash eliminates SCP's. So, this list will also be handy for Fun Cash decisions.

So, let's use this thread to list any SCP DVD's that you come across in your browsing of CH's website. I realize that nearly all box sets are marked at a SCP. As shown by Gobear's post below, listing some box sets here could be helpful for Fun Cash strategy. The single movie DVD's are the ones we should primarily list here. Please list the selection number, title, Regular Price and Special Club Price. Listing the title in bold will make the thread easier to browse. Also, note that most, if not all, of these SCP discs will have shipping and handling tacked on due to their size.

I don't have any data miner program, so this list will need to be comprised of items folks simply spot while browsing CH's website. Is there any guarantee that a SCP DVD listed here will still be at that price when you check the website? Nope.

I can start the list with two SCP titles I purchased today with the BOGO code:

Selection #: 4718508 Close Encounters of the Third Kind 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition - RP: $39.99; SCP: $23.97

Selection #: 4835005 It's a Wonderful Life Collector's Set (new release with B&W and Colorized version) - RP: $24.99; SCP: $14.97

For examples of how titles like these help you maximize the BOGO codes, I bought Close Encounters and picked up the two disc unrated Live Free or Die Hard for free, and then placed a second order for It's a Wonderful Life and picked up the new "Ambigram" edition of The Princess Bride for free. Total spent on those four discs: $47.92 (38.94 plus $8.98 S&H). For comparison's sake, if you purchased these four DVD's from DeepDiscount right now and used their 20% off coupon, your total would be $64.64.

I realize that patience and churning would result in getting these DVD's even cheaper if they eventually become eligible for enrollment. I lack such patience.

So, please help this list grow by adding to this thread SCP DVD's you might come across.

Adding the selection number is a good idea Gobear. I'll edit mine to add that.

You're not shitting on it. Re-read the first post. As noted there, just about any box set is going to have a SCP attached to it. Thus, most box sets (for exceptions, see Gobear's post below) should not be listed in this thread - particularly in light of the fact that box sets - even at SCP - do not qualify for free shipping. It's those needle in a haystack single movie DVD's at SCP that do qualify for free shipping that we should try to nail down.

Understood. I did not want to chide Gobear about listing the Almodovar set since he was the first one to reply. The Airport Terminal Pack he listed might also qualify as a box set.

I apologize for muddying the waters, but it seems to me that Special Club Prices have more uses than merely as thrifty qualifiers for a BOGO deal.

Regular box sets should not be listed, but box sets with special prices that are too low to count as fulfillments should be listed. I look for >$20 box sets or DVDs below $10 as a way to spend accumulated FC without wasting it on a regular box set or a single movie that could be better used as an enrollment or a fulfillment.

I only mentioned the Viva Pedro set because it is an amazing deal, given that it runs around $80-$90 everywhere else. Getting 8 great Almodovar movies (not 4 as the CH site says) plus a BOGO DVD at an incredibly low price seems to me to be in the spirit of the thread.

Hmm. I had not thought about Fun Cash implications. It is true that the SCP is the price to which you apply your Fun Cash so there is definitely some utility in having a handy list of SCP choices to maximize Fun Cash usage. I see what you mean. If you see utility in listing the box sets you describe here, that's fine by me. If you want to write a few sentences for me to insert into the opening post that describes the box set SCP's that should be listed here and why, please PM that to me. And the Pedro set is amazing. I bought one as well.

You must take into account that quite a few of these sub $19.95 SCP "sets" are less expensive to purchase with fun cash, shipping included, than they would be elsewhere. And since they can NOT be taken as enrollment selections OR as free selections in a B1G1 deal they can make excellent fun cash purchases. The biggest problem is you can only apply a max of $10 FC to these "sets". As you have pointed out, they are not so great as the B1 in a B1G1 once "average" DVD price is factored in.

Selection #: 4831004 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Seasons 1 & 2 - RP: $39.99; SCP: $23.97

I thought that was a good deal since I haven't seen it anywhere around dallas for less than $30. I also had the 8 1/2 criterion as the free selection on the B1G1

Added today: (Even though this is out today, CH has this for pre-order on 12/11.)

Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same Limited Coll. Edition (Pre-Order) SCP: $26.97 + $2.99 S&H = $29.96

What would be the most cost effective means to acquire this?

Sounds like you might have to try and call to place that order to see if you can get them to recognize that the release date for that set is today, not 12/11/08. If you could get that straightened out, a BOGO paired with the Wizard of Oz collector's edition would work out well, since the regular price of the LZ set is $44.95. BTW, I just noticed that on CH's website, the Pedro boxset is listed at $34.99, not $84.99. If that does not work, you could get the set for about $23 at DeepDiscount right now with their 20% off sale.

That won't work. Items with a "special club price" can only be used as the B1 portion, you can never get them free.

Curses. I forgot about that. Well, if he could get them to straighten out the release date, he could pick up the LZ set and the 2 disc Live Free or Die Hard Unrated for free with the BOGO code.

The release date is just a couple weeks off, I can wait for it. I'm trying to figure out if I can get this cheaper as part of an optimized fulfilled account, using funcash, or something else. I have an account to fulfill and there is an unlimited BOGO code right now, so I will probably go that route. I actually don't want this full blown SE, I wish CH just had the 2-Disc dvd on it's own.
