That's a good start, however none of the coupon codes work for HD discs right?

For the time being, the best that you can do is to take the HD title as the paid part of a BOGO order.

I really want CH to stick it out with HD and BD and start selling them with sale prices but I hate having to buy them at these ridiculous prices right now, though, I fear if I don't help the cause and buy some HD products they might stop selling these. If everyone else waits like me then these HD and BD products are doomed. I'll have to buy a couple and get a few Criterions for free, like you've mentioned otherwise it kind of feels like not voting for the President and then complaining when W gets elected

Some of the older titles for both BR and HD-DVD are priced a little over their SD counterpart. With that in mind, it would be good if they would eventually be allowed as a free title in a B1G1 deal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I agree that the newer titles are a bit expensive. Being that I have no interest in getting any of the Criterions they carry (I already own 8 1/2 and Red Shoes and don't care for the others), I don't have anything on the SD end I really care to get for a B1G1 deal to be worth it.

It's great Casino Royale is being carried in BR. Too bad I ordered it on SD in my last enrollment. On the HD-DVD end, I was hoping for Matrix Ultimate Collection to be carried and not only the Complete Matrix Trilogy.

The way that I choose to look at it is that I'm thankful that CH is even offering HD titles at this time. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are an extremely niche market and I'm surprised that CH is even bothering to sell them right now. I too would love it if CH would make HD titles available as enrollment selections, as the freebie in a BOGO order and would allow FunCash to be applied to them. However, you really shouldn't look at it as CH selling HD titles for a few dollars more than, say, Amazon. You have to factor in the 7 enrollment titles that only cost $12.89 and the 2 titles that you would get for free as part of a BOGO fulfillment order.

I like to look at it as a package deal-

7 SD titles for $12.89
2 HD-DVDs for $59.92($29.96 per title-there are cheaper HD titles)
2 SD titles as BOGO freebies
Free shipping and no tax(at least in CT)

Total $72.81
Average cost per title $6.62(you won't find an HD title at Amazon for $6.62).

I'm trying to only buy SD titles that I don't think will come out in HD, such as some of the After Dark horror movies. I'm hoping to avoid an eventual double dip.

What the heck is SD? Standard disc? Single disc? I know you're talking about the normal titles, I just can't figure out why you are referring to them as SD...

Ohhhhhhhhhh, thanks. I never saw those initials refer to a DVD before this thread, but maybe I haven't been paying close attention... To me, SD means Secure Digital, since that's what my camera takes...

It's worth double-dipping on. There are some fantastic 3-d like images in the Blu-ray version, especially in Venice and the final scene.

Are the HD titles available through ch.com and would it be cheaper than Amazon to get them at ch.com if they're available?

They are available on CH.com. The ones I priced were cheaper at CH.com compared to Amazon.

Strange. When I search for Blu ray, I can see the first page of results but the second page has just been saying "search down" pretty much all day.

Could someone please post some of the HD and BD prices on CH.com? I might join and buy through there if the prices are competitive. It sounds like they are competitive right now.

I've noticed some of the sale prices for some of the older HD titles are in the $22 range when they are on sale. Being that they are just slightly more than what CH charges for SD for the same titles, I'm hoping they would make these available for a B1G1 free being they're so cheap. It would certainly boost enrollments if they do.

I agree that buying HD stuff through CH is the best way to go when you're looking at it by the average cost per title and it is the main reason I'm in HD right now instead of staying out of the fray. Finally, I can get HD titles affordably.

FWIW, the Face/Off Special Collector's Edition - HD DVD pre-order is $29.95 list, $22.46 CH price. That's getting pretty close to the standard $19.95 fulfillment minimum.

WRT CH.com, generally all titles are 40% off list. Sometimes a bit more of a discount, but never less. Shipping is always free on everything, of course. So, the Face/off HD DVD pre-order is $17.99 at CH.com. Also at that price are such titles as:

The Bourne Identity - HD DVD
The Bourne Supremacy -HD DVD
Apollo 13 -HD DVD
Backdraft - HD DVD
Batman Begins - HD DVD
Blazing Saddles - HD DVD
Blood Diamond - HD DVD
Casino - HD DVD
Dune - HD DVD
A Christmas Story - HD DVD
($17.39)
Full Metal Jacket - HD DVD ($17.39)
Goodfellas - HD DVD ($17.39)
King Kong - HD DVD
March of the Penguins - HD DVD
($17.39)
The Mummy - HD DVD
The Mummy Returns - HD DVD

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - HD DVD ($17.39)
The Polar Express - HD DVD ($17.39)
Sleepy Hollow - HD DVD
Troy - HD DVD ($17.39)
V for Vendetta - HD DVD ($17.39)

Those are decent prices.

The abbreviation "SD DVD" is routinely used in the HD Talk forum to distinguish standard definition DVDs from the new High Definition formats (HD DVD and BD). There really isn't any other practical way to make the distinction because writing out "Standard Definition" and "High Definition" gets pretty tedious.

Definitely NOT a "dumb question"; it is a confusing subject and the question gets asked a lot. Please check out the FAQs in the first post of the Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II. Your question is about 2/3 of the way down the list:

• What is “CH.com”? Is it different from the regular DVD Club?

Face/Off is no longer BR because of the Paramount deal.
