I didn't know about the former-MGM-now-Warner situation. Thanks for the explanation (which I now see on the not yet available for enrollment thread). :)

Is Dr. Katz something that might eventually become an enrollment title?

Um, are you sure it's even available at Columbia House? I'm not finding it when I search for it. Anyway, the way it goes is it depends on if the price is a Special Club Price or Regular/Sale Price. If it's a Special Club Price, it will definitely not be available for enrollment, but if it's a Regular/Sale price, it will be in most cases, I think the only exceptions are if it's more than $20 it's questionable. The TV releases are not consistant as to being special or regular prices, particularly if they are one-disc releases. One example is the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has the first volume as Regular/Sale price, and available for enrollment, but subsequent volumes are Special prices, and not available for enrollment.

EDIT: Well, apparently, TMNT wasn't a good example, because now the first volume is Special price like the others, and it is no longer available for enrollment. I KNOW it was before, because I got it as an enrollment! Anyway, for a current example, the Britsh Office Series 1 is Special price and not available for enrollment, but Series 2 and the Special are Regular/Sale prices and available for enrollment

Brain went on the fritz there. I did a search and didn't find it and, for some unknown reason, was thinking it wasn't shown on the non-members search because it wasn't yet available for enrollment. I knew it was a Paramount title so assumed that was the reason rather than it not being carried.

joltman 07-10-06 06:22 AM

I don't know for sure, but the Paramount TV titles don't seem to be available at CH. I know that the South Parks and Beavis and Butt-heads aren't, and it looks like Dr Katz can be added to that list.

Damned odd that Something New became available this week. A Universal title that's only seven weeks old? Even under new management CH continues to mystify.

I thought so too. Could just be a flub by a Columbia House employee.

Still not available. This might also be one of the infrequent Columbia Tri-Star delayed titles.

ASND is an original Warner title and should become available on 7/31/06 or 8/7/06. (The 3 month period falls on a wednesday, and I'm never quite sure about these, but I think it will come a little early on 7/31.)

Are you guys sure about the difference between the Warner and the Warner/MGM titles? I haven't been following CH, so I don't doubt it's true, but I used to work ar Warner and I never heard anybody say that there was any difference in the way both were farmed out to CH. The MGM titles are license/distributed by Warner - they are owned by Warner.

Just curious...

We're sure, so don't doubt it, like you said. ;)

We're just going off of experience of how CH handles these titles, and everything seems to agree with this procedure. CH does strange things.

Peep 08-01-06 07:24 PM

Weird. I wonder why.

Thanks for the update.
Interesting that Ronin also showed up today, a month after the expected 2 month usual wait for MGM.

And thanks grivet for the update on Wyatt Earp 2-disc no longer available for enrollment. :(
I'll have to update my thread.

CH lists it as a Columbia TriStar title hence the three month wait. No clue as to why Event Horizon shows up after 16 weeks though.

Is "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (the new one) not carried by Columbia House?

No, since it's a Disney title.
