Is it worth it to keep one account open?
 

i got 2 fulfilled accounts.

Close em and start again. Just close and open one new one and then a few days later close the other one and open a second account.

I like to keep one account open to check out prices, get selection numbers, and check out the web page. Also, if there are ever any glitches (deals), I can take advantage of those.

The main reason to keep an account open is just in case you can not get a new account approved, you can still fall back on your current account and get DVDs for around $10 each. This is a last resort, and those prices are not as good as the usual $5 each average, however; they are still better than buying DVDs in stores.

It used to be helpful to keep an account open to research DVD selections, including non-enrollment ones. But some months back Columbia House started listing all DVDs on the enrollment website, so this reason is no longer as important.

But I keep an account open for the reasons fryinpan1 gives above and because I only need to cycle one account (or one account plus a TV Edition account) to get the DVDs I want. Like others who have had many accounts before, I already have most of the Columbia House DVDs I want. If that is not the case for you, it might be best to cycle two accounts.

The problem with using the enrollment site is that you don't get pricing.

Well i've had one account open since the beginning and have had no problem opening two or three other accounts at the same time. As long as you have an account fulfilled, I don't think they care if you keep it open while opening a couple more. I know they've told me in the past that you are only able to have 2 accounts open at once but this doesn't seem to be true. I currently have 5 accounts set up to ship to the same address.

I keep one open. Sometimes there are actually deals, for example, the Wizard of Oz 3-disc set was $23.97 or something like that earlier this year. And by buying that, I got unlimited 60% off and free shipping. It was a good deal.

I always have one open ready to close as soon as I get my enrollment for the next one. It is a great system and it allows you to use the open account for all of the reasons listed above! So, yes - keep one open - open another - close it when you get your enrollment and start again!

Keep a ch.com acct open and close the others. You'll be able to get 40-60% off and free shipping every time. You don't have director's selections either.

"40-60% off" isn't much of a deal when we can buy DVDs for $5.86 (or less with free shipping). That's 71% off for $19.95 DVDs and 73% off for $21.95 DVDs.

And that "40-60% off" at CH.com tends to be figured from the MSRP, not the regular CH club price, so the discount is misleading.

For example: at CH.com Batman Begins: Deluxe Edition is $22.95 at CH.com "(You save $7.00 off List price)". Whoopie. In the regular club we can get it as a fulfillment for $8.86 (or less with free shipping). And it will be available for enrollment in a month or two, at which time it will average out to $5.86.

Or you could buy Wedding Crashers Uncorked Platinum Series (Pre-Order) for $17.39 from CH.com. The equivalent pre-order price from the regular club would be about $8.86 (less with free shippng). And by waiting for it to become available for enrollment it could be had for $5.86 from the regular club.

While I do keep a CH.com account open, it has never offered deals remotely approaching the prices we get by cycling regular DVD club accounts. There used to be sale offers that worked at CH.com, but nothing in recent months.

I'll go against conventional wisdom and recommend against keeping an account open. This past summer they sent me a "director's selection" despite the fact I had declined it online. Prior to that, they sent me an expensive Box set at full price for no apparent reason. Such problems can be corrected eventually but not without effort... sometimes considerable effort. CH perpetrates enough miscues and outright weirdness for me to avoid them when not working a new account.
I have about everything I want from them and have to wait for new titles to arrive before starting a new account, so if a "special sale" came along I don't know what I'd get anyway. Funcash was a good reason to keep an account open but they have effectively killed that as far as I'm concerned. Bottom line, keeping an account open has proved to be more trouble than it's worth.

I always keep one open - checking selection (for future enrollments) and pricing, plus twice now in the past 18 months there have been very decent deals ($5 titles during a free shipping period, for example).
