CH Funcash Strategies?

Now that December is here and all the Funcash that we all have accumulated will expire shortly, I thought it would be interesting to talk about what the best ways to maximize our funcash balances would be. Originally, I had planned to use mine like most others on TV DVD sets; but that's not a good option anymore. Most movie DVD's can be had for about $5 at CH with the enroll/fulfill/cancel/ re-enroll strategy.

So what do the members here that still have large Funcash balances plan to do with their FC?

I was trying to transfer it all over to my ch.com but I keep getting denied :(
I'll probably just get a couple non-set movies since they'll just cost shipping and tax

Your best bet would be to buy DVDs that cost less than $39.95 but are unlikely to become available for enrollment. For example, Criterions or three or four disc special editions. Even this isn't much of a deal because such titles can be purchased as fulfillments if they are priced over $19.95. So, one wants non-enrollment DVDs that are typically priced at less than $19.95 (and therefore can't be used for fulfillment) or in the $30 to $39.94 range, to get the most value from funcash.

As you have discovered, funcash isn't much of a deal now that the amount that can be used on box sets is limited.

I think I'm going for a CC this time around.

Are the Lord of the Rings extended editions considered box sets, and limited to the funchash maximums, or since they are one movie...just an extended edition with four disks can you pay entirely for them with funcash?

They are considered box sets, they'll ring up at $29.96 in your FC cart and you can only redeem $10 worth of FC on them.

Good advice, but criterions and such can be used with some B1G1F promotions. So, I think the best use is cheap 2-disc box sets you might want, if there are any.

Unlike regular titles, you can get the sale price on these, so even though you apply only $10 max FC on a >$20 set, that means you'll get $3 box set w/ $3 shipping. Tough to beat.

Figured as much....so with the shipping they are going to run about $37 each....not a good deal at all...is there any way to get these for a good price with CH?

Not sure I follow....how are you going to get a box set for $3/box +shipping if they are >$20, and can only use $10 fun cash? Just made a big purchase with 3x funcash, and looking for good ways to use it, don't see many other than getting new releases I don't have for $3 each.

They LOTR Extended Editions sometimes go on sale and can be had at lower prices. Buying them as fulfillments when they are on sale during free shipping is probably the best way to get them.

This probably doesn't apply to you, but if you have funcash in an account that is not yet fulfilled you could use $10 funcash to lower the price to $20 or so and it would count for fulfillment. For obvious reasons, it is unusual to have significant funcash in an unfulfilled account... But it has been done.

sotra 12-20-05 07:22 AM

FYI according to CH this year if you end up having some funcash left in your account at the end of the year you will be able to carry over up to $10. It doesn't say anything about this in their printed materials, but if you're logged in online and click on the link to the right that tells you how much funcash you have it will say towards the bottom of that page.

I use FunCash exclusively on $15 titles. There aren't many such titles I want, and I don't like averaging $6 on them, so it's the best strategy for me.

kenbenobi 12-21-05 12:10 AM

Some British titles are 14.96, so you'd only have to pay 4.96 for each. Men Behaving Badly and Black Adder II are a few (they should be ringing up 19.95, but they only show as 14.96 in the funcash cart). The other Black Adder titles are 19.95, but you can use $20 in funcash...

dfriedland 12-21-05 12:07 PM

Ghostbusters set is $4.96 after $10 funcash
(plus shipping & tax, of course)

abintra 12-21-05 03:46 PM

The Ghostbusters set is $7.99 at Best Buy until the 24th.

dfriedland 12-21-05 07:36 PM

Yes, but I saved .04 cents AND I don't have to go to Best Buy before Christmas. :D
