Hello, new to the forum. One thing I wanted to comment on was that I never knew columbia house could be so good! Sure, I've had previously dealings with them. Gotten charged shipping out the wazooo, and ended up paying 12 dollars on average for all of my dvd's. Now, with all of these promo codes, it's amazing what I'm seeing (as low as 50 bucks!?) Anyways, I'm an avid dvd collector (as my college budget allows) who definatly loves finding great movies at budget price. If there are any websites like this that you would recommend as your favorites, then let me hear about it. My primary one stop dvd shop has been Hollywood video (with their 25 for 3 and sometimes 20 for 3 deals). I was flabergasted to see how incredible finding cheap dvd's could be. Anyway, like I said, I'm an avid collector, on a not so spectacular budget.

My last CH deal was my best so far. Fulfilled an account with 11 DVDs with an average of $4.07 a DVD IIRC.

I believe people have reported getting charged sales tax by DDD in IL.

Amazon currently has good prices for some things, such as some Fox sets, that Columbia House doesn't sell. Firefly — The Complete Series is $29.99 shipped, the best price, outside of a DDD 20% off sale, that I have seen.

But for things that CH does sell, the current average DVD cost of $5.86 is hard to beat!

xboxfanatic, some suggestions for keeping CH membership costs down:

• When enrolling you should be using the best codes, obviously, but also be sure to purchase the first "bonus" DVD that reduces the committment, but not the second one for $9.95, because it doesn't reduce the committment.

• When purchasing fulfillments, always buy all of them (usually two) at the same time to save on shipping.

• Always make that first fufillment purchase on the "$5 off first time web orders" site: www .columbiahouse.com/webdvd (delete the space after the www). The order must be for at least $30, another reason to buy both fulfillments at the same time.

• Don't get put off by the price of fulfillments (minimum $19.95); your membership is a package and you can't get the almost free enrollments without purchasing the fulfillments. What is important is the average cost of all the DVDs in the membership.

• If you would like to purchase a box set as a fulfillment, the fulfillment credit is as follows:
<$39.95 counts as one
$39.95 to $59.94 counts as two
$59.95 to $79.94 counts as three
$79.95 to $99.94 counts as four
$99.95 and up counts as five
If you want to purchase a box set of $59.95 or more, it is best to decline the "bonus" DVD when enrolling so that you need three fulfillments to complete the membership.

• Don't get suckered in by the "sale" offers CH sends you. The standard one, "50% off", requires the purchase of a full price DVD to qualify for the sale price and the cost of the sale DVDs is usually higher than the average cost of a DVD in an optimized membership. From time to time CH will send out a sale offer that is a good deal, such as "buy one, get one free" (B1G1F). When that happens it will be much discussed here. But most CH sale offers are a bad deal and are designed to entice you into spending more than you are required to in order to complete your account.

• The lowest cost strategy for Columbia House memberships is to buy the minimum required DVDs to fulfill the account then to close it and open a new membership. Many of us have done this dozens of times (more than 75 accounts for me, for example).

• If you can be patient and wait for a "free shipping for three" promotion (the most recent one was last month) before you fulfill your account you will lower your costs somewhat. But if you want to cycle through accounts as rapidly as possible, that is ok. $5.86 per DVD ought to be good enough for anyone!

I was a retail buyer way back when DVDs first came out. Bought Apollo 13 at Futureshop for $30. :(

Then when I discovered buying DVDs on the internet, my first online store was... DVD Empire. :(

Wow, not bad. Thanks for all of the info. One question I have though is that during the free shipping period last month, I went ahead and saved a cart, to use for later. When I go back to bring up my cart, it says I'm still eligible for the free shipping (I used the "lmtd" code). Is this right?

I have a quick question kinda off topic. I have recently discovered all the codes for columbia house here and i was wondering if the dvds or cases were marked columbia house. I was in the cd club years ago and I remember they had columbia house written on the back of the jewel cases in small print. I mean it's no big deal but I always thought it was kinda off, like I don't have the official thing ya know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

yea same exact thing.. with a few variations.... some studios, their is no white seal, just the shrink wrap - since the item was made just for mail order... no need to waste money on anti-theft.... some titles that come with "movie cash" there is no movie cash, and titles that come with a slipcover over the keep case, some user's have reported not getting the slip case.. though i have on all of mine... the UPC code's and physical discs themselves are identical, and there is no CH printing anywhere... they are buying them from the manufacturers...

I have never seen this happen before. If you can go through the checkout process and shipping remains free then it will likely work. I would suggest keeping a copy of the order summary to have some evidence that you thought you were getting free shipping.
