Star Wars Boxed Set

Does anyone know the chances of CH carrying this set, it's suprising to not see it on the site this close to release. They also don't have Indiana Jones (last years "christmas" boxed set) which isn't a good sign.

Considering the absolute best deal you can get on the OT is about $30. If CH charges $69.90 then you are paying about $30 for the set which is a good deal since you are getting 2 fufillments while doing it.

I think the math is.

19.95 + 19.95 + $24.01 + 5.99(shipping) = paying $30 net for the set.

None.

Yeah, it boggles the mind how CH doesn't carry probably the biggest DVD release ever, but whatcha gonna do.

basaro 09-11-04 09:09 AM

Most likely they won't carry it. Not suprising since they don't carry The Passion Of The Christ either, which will probably end up being the first or second biggest selling dvd this year.

CH doesn't seem too concerned about making a lot of money since they won't stock 3 of the biggest releases in the last 12 months. -screwy-

I'm sure they are very concerned with getting high profile titles like that. I believe the problem is with the distributor not offering CH the titles at a price similar to what CH pays for other releases.

Columbia House sells only those titles that the studios are willing to provide to them at bargain prices. They carry only a limited selection of Fox DVDs and have never carried Star Wars; perhaps because Fox or Lucasfilm didn't want to give away the "crown jewels". The same may also be true for Paramount's Indiana Jones set, although I suspect that it will eventually become available from CH.

Columbia House sells some 5000 DVD titles and by buying the ones you want from that selection you can use some of the money you saved to purchase Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Disney/Miramax DVDs from other sources.

Any chance that THX 1138 will ever be available, since it's another Lucas movie?

SFranke 09-13-04 06:15 PM

It will be. CH carries American Graffiti, which is also a Lucas title. The limitation only applies to films that Lucas owns.

It's already available for pre-order. The difference is that THX and AG aren't properties of Lucasfilm. Ironically, it was his problems with the major studios making those two films that made him create Lucasfilm in the first place!

Is it the single disc or the two disc edition that CH has for pre-order? Or both? If it's the two-disc, I'm going to forego getting it at a B&M and just wait for my next CH account to open. I was almost afraid this would be like Star Wars and that CH would not have it.

3144003 THX 1138 $21.95 is listed as the "Director's Cut" and bga's list shows it as two discs. It is not available for enrollment yet.

Also, the artwork they show is definately the 2-disc special edition.

Frankly, I can't imagine why the studio is even offering this in two different editions. Seems to me that anyone that would be interested in this movie (like me) would never pass up the cool stuff on the second disc. At least they aren't screwing us by releasing the single disc first and then offering the 2-disk set a year later.
