THE COLUMBIA HOUSE SALES TAX THREAD Hi everybody, I thought I'd post a thread that we can all add to, showing real-time Sales Tax rates for Columbia House in the United States. I will check in periodically and update this list for you with everyone's contributions so the data stays in the top thread, where Newbies can quickly grab it. THE PEACH |

CA sales tax is based on county. In Orange County, it's 7.25%
I also have accounts in the DFW area (76155), TX...0% sales tax. Needless to say, all of my future accounts will be opened with my TX address. Note: some counties in TX get charged sales tax. Steve |

CH starts charging sale tax in FL since November. 6%, i guess, in Orlando.

I alternate between Tampa and Melbourne, and both get taxed. This was covered in the final days of the old thread.

Peach, can you fix the Florida rate? Also, if this is going to be the new official thread, can we have a mod close the old one (after linking to this thread)?

Until this list is more complete it might be useful for some folks to reference the older thread (?), but . . . whatever works for the forum. I just think it needs to be present and the lead thread refreshed periodically so people don't have to go hunting this data down. PEACH |
Originally posted by SC_Trojan Well I live in Los Angeles and our tax is 8.25% but all of my orders have been charged only 7.25%. I don't know if theres a glitch on their system or maybe there was another drop in local tax that I don't know about. I'm in the Bay Area (California) and, like you, the local is 8.25% . . . but CH is obviously picking up the lowest rate available in (that) state and using that one, regardless of where you are in the state. That's my best guess, but correct me if I'm wrong. PEACH http://www.intergate.com/~tobeornot2...NGATEsmall.gif |
Well, the "tax free" party may be over for residents of Texas.
My recent enrollment/fulfillment orders this month were both charged tax ($.15 for a 2.45 enrollment & 7.21 for a 114.80 fulfillment order). The taxes charged come out to about 6.25%. I sent CH an email asking why? And, this is what I got - This is in response to your request for information regarding the collection of sales tax. Up until recently, Columbia House did not maintain contacts within your state that would require the collection and remittance of sales tax in accordance with state laws. That changed when Columbia House established certain contacts in your state, and as of March 2004, is registered with your state authorities to collect and remit such taxes. If we may be of further service, please let us know. Sincerely, Al Buffington Customer Service Major bummer. |
