The new updated list of CH DVDs (data miner)
I've written a perl script that generates a list of all titles it can find on the website as well as all the titles available for enrollment through the website. There are some titles that are not available for enrollment via the website but are available for enrollment by phone, see the FAQ and the Phone-Only enrollment threads at DVDTalk DVD Club forum. In general, these are one or two disc titles that were released several months ago, and have a suggested retail price less than $45.
The file is in comma separated value format, which can be read by just about any spreadsheet program. If you don't have a spreadsheet program, you can download a pretty good one for free at Open Office. Note: The number of discs column in the datafile is based on a parameter in the CH links or a mention of the number of discs in the description, and does not always reflect the actual number of discs associated with the title. For example, some box sets show up as one disc. A new listing for this is available. Here is the link to the list. |
bga,
Excellent list. :) I've taken the 3/11 CSV file and ported it into Excel. I've then added a couple fields (marking what I know I want, what I already have, etc.). Taking the HTML update list, what do you think is the best way to update the XLS without having to manually key it? I've got Access available to me and can port the XLS into Access if necessary. Thanks. |
anyone have any idea what this 1970706 Dawn Of The Dead that showed up is? The old version has been out of print for quite some time now (and fetches a pretty good price on ebay) and the new one isn't slated for this summer.

Say WHAT?!?!
This is from the 3-18 update...
2763704 James Bond Collection, The old price: 124.96 new price: 19.95 now that's one helluva decrease.... actual retail price: (fromt he accnt i logged into: $106.21 Is there something wrong with the script? B/c it did list all price decreases as being to $19.95 (but most of the rest are believable except this one). |
Noticed the same thing on the Star Trek box set... Real price is $111.95 not $19.95.
Dawn of the Dead - No idea but it shows up as The Director's Cut - no picture - with Elite as the studio. Obviously, there's something wrong there since both OOP editions are from Anchor Bay (since when would CH carry Elite products?). Anyone want to take a shot at Dawn and see what they get? |

So bga, that is the reason we now have a 3/19 after having a 3/18?
|
I just checked your big list against my own 'to buy list' I made when I got my 1st catalog in mid-Feb. Anyway 2 titles I wanted to get, "Gotti" and "Rain Man" are not listed. And I also looked on the web site, they're definitely not there, definitely, definitely not available from CH, have to get 'em at K-Mart. Why is that? Why do titles just drop off the radar screen like that?
|
Yes, I deleted the 3/18 update because of the wrong prices. As to the titles that disappear, I presume CH had limited stock and ran out.
|
Thanks! Nice List!

Anyone got a good methodology on using the HTML update file to auto update an ongoing spreadsheet?
Thanks. |
What happened with SPY KIDS 2. I could swear on an older "not yet available for enrollment" list, it showed 3/24 as the date it would be available for enrollment? Now it's 5/18.
|
Thanks for the update
|
I have no idea about Spy Kids 2. My program doesn't estimate when something becomes available for enrollment. Spy Kids 2 was released about a month ago, so I would expect it to become available either mid April or mid May depending on whether the CH has a 2 month or 3 month wait established for titles from this publisher.

Is there an excel sheet of this? I know there used to be one.

Save it to disk, and then open it, your spreadsheet program should open it automatically. BTW, a new update is available.
|
Thanks so much!! :) this list is fantastic! :) I guess the only thing I'd have to ask is to add a date that some of the discs will be available for enrollment. Wasn't there a list of that floating around?
|
I believe in one of the 2 top sticky threads there is a link to the "not yet available for enrollment" and in that, it has the projected date it will be available.

For some reason, when I save and then try to open the 4/1/03 comma delimited list with excel, it says "this file is not a recognizable format" and puts a bunch of gibberish into a spreadsheet.
The 3/25/03 list works fine for me, though. |

Originally posted by bga That's odd. I can read it fine with OpenOffice on FreeBSD, and with Excel 97 on Windows 98. The 3/25 list opens up in wordpad and is clearly has all of the correct cell data in quotes and separated by commas (i.e. "Selection","Title","Studio","Release Date","Genre","Price",......). When I open the 4/1 file, it has a bunch of gibberish (i.e. £‡™{ª²Üé7ïv&N|m'9ç–`‹Ç¡ââDùõ·à&‰.......) until about a quarter of the way down the page, at which point it begins listing normal cell data in quotes and separated by commas, starting with Stargate-UE. The weird thing is that if I go to your page, and click on the 4/1/03 CSV link, and then choose "Open this file from it's current location", instead of saving to disk, it seems to open fine. Clearly, the file is getting screwed up when I save it to my hard drive. I hope it's not a virus or something. I'm about to start a full virus scan on my system to check. |
