Roan DVD's

If anyone remembers Roan (imo the BEST of the public Domain labels for quality by a mile), I just noticed that Troma (who bought Roan) is currently selling a number of Roan titles from $4.50 - $8.99. I was under the belief that they were long sold out & out of print. I don't know if they are pressed old stock, or burned. I emailed Troma, & will post if they respond. As I posted elsewhere, I just bought the Kino RKO Romance blu-ray box, & fact is on the first film, "Millie", the Roan DVD pre-code box has much better blacks in the dark scenes & at a much lower price.

Troma confirmed all remaining Roan is factory pressed. Shipping is kind of high, unfortunately.

I just realized that I already have 3 of the 5 titles from the Kino RKO Romance box that I recently bought on Roan DVD's; & the dvd's while much lower bit rate were taken from much higher quality prints (sigh). Sad that Roan used better quality prints than "boutique label" Kino.

Did some looking in my collection.

I own some Roan titles, but not from Troma which have their own security sticker on top of the DVD case (reads "Troma"). Mine were originals found off eBay.

Seeking; have bought twice, but the DVDs looks like someone took a scoop out of it. Were they all like this?

Yes. Their release of "Santa Fe Trail" is a night and day difference from the the PD DVD releases which was so washed out, you can hardly make anything out.

I owned their laser disc for "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932) which blew away the Criterion DVD. Man, they dropped the ball so hard on that one. The LD came with a reproduction of the pressbook (physical copy), commentary, galleries and trailers.

Also have their laser disc for "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers: Fred Olen Ray's Laser Drive-in Special Widescreen Collector's Edition"; unrated edition, interviews with actress Linnea Quigley and Michelle Bauer, plus trailers.

I assume you're referring to Ida Lupino's The Hitch-hiker? It's excellent; I think Kino has it now (it may be Criterion). If it is the 1953 Lupino, it is very much worth watching.
