Kino $4.99 'Classic Clearance' sale - ends Jan. 31

Excellent prices on several classics that are apparently going out of print almost immediately. Everything's $4.99. Lots of classic silent flicks, too. The Fairbanks box is a ridiculously good deal. Also a couple of gorgeous Blu-rays: Black Pirate and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman. Probably not wise to hesitate:

(With apologies in advance to all those I helped enable in the VCI bargain bin sale )

For anyone who might not be able to reach the $50 threshold, I'd recommend getting multiples. Since these appear to be going out of print, having a few sealed copies for selling later on might be a good way to offset your costs. They have a limit of three per title (which I took advantage of on nearly everything since resale prices in Canada are healthy on these), but I'm not sure if you could add more on a second order.

I have the dvd of Pandora. It STARTS at $12 + $4 s/h on Amazon. I've put it on ebay at $10.50 shipped; so far only 1 page view in several hours; though ebay is becoming worthless for most "media".

gave up on eBay to sell media a long time ago. And Amazon got too greedy and restrictive. using Half.com now...again, very little luck in selling it but at least the listing sits there until sold with no expiry date to the listing

Pandora and the Flying Dutchman is a classic and the Blu-ray looks dynamite.

Brian T, thanks for the tip! Grabbed the Fairbanks stuff, Harry Langdon...the Forgotten Clown , Sudden Fear, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman...

Moo, have you ever seen Abraham Lincoln (1930) ? I remember seeing it on TCM and thinking it seemed stiffer than a film from 1930 should have been...but I don't think the quality was all that good either....Didn't realize the Struggle was a separate film...Thought it was part of the Abe film, D'oh!
Thought I might have seen it somewheres...a youtube, tcm, a trade, something...thought the version I saw was oddly yellow tinted. When you get a chance, can you report on the quality of it?
Thanks!

Yes. I remember that I like it. I'll try to check soon for pic quality.

If anyone doesn't already have The Old Dark House, GRAB IT; imo it's the best of the bunch! A good portion of it was lifted for Rocky Horror, & of course it stars Karloff.

They take 15% for items priced up to $50 and reimburse $2.39 for shipping. They pay you twice a month, for sales from the 1st to the 15th and 16th to the end of the month. I received a direct deposit on 1/28/16 for sales from 1/1/16 to 1/15/16.

The commission decreases to 12.5% for items priced $50.01 to $100.00 and 10% for items $100.01 to $250.00.

I'll 2nd that recommendation! I purchased that one on release day as I was afraid it'd go OOP quickly. It's a super fun title and good print.

$2.39; ouch. With the new postage rates commercial rate postage for 1 cd or 1 dvd is $2.60. (+ mailer, label & ink).

Thank you Brian T! I was able to latch onto some good stuff I didn't already own, including THE BLACK PIRATE.

Looks like most of the sale titles have indeed been removed from Kino's site. One title that perplexed me was Douglas Fairbanks' IRON MASK (1929), which was included on the sale page but never seemed to actually get marked down $4.99, and yet now it's 'discontinued'. Did anyone actually get it at the sale price? I only ever saw it at around $24 or thereabouts. I probably should've called them before I placed my order.

I hadthe same experience as you so passed on it. I think 5 DF SR films + what I've already got is more Fairbanks then I want! I only bit on the box due to the price.

I thought that one was odd and wanted to wait and see if it dropped as I'd have picked up a copy at $4.99, but

there's this. 5 DF silents *is* enough for me and the box has some of his best so I'm quite happy with just it, in spite of me already owning a copy of his Robin Hood (although I've yet to watch it).

Too late for this sale now, but I hope DF fans did pick up THE GAUCHO, which is one of this best films and my personal favorite. I also believe it to be his finest performance as he was required to do genuine dramatic acting rather than just display his physical prowess and electric screen presence. At $4.99 it was a steal and complimented the box set very nicely.

I hope my order goes through. I got the initial email, but not the "confirmation"; & the hold has dropped off my credit card. I just emailed them. I didn't do anything dicey; just 1 copy each of enough to hit $50.

Now that you mention it... I never got a initial "thanks for your order" email, much less a "confirmation" one. I *do* know the initial CC charge posted, at least temporarily, as I watched it go through. I just checked the site and don't see a "track your order" type link. I may contact them via email when I get home and have order information available.

FWIW I didn't create a account but checked out as "guest."

Same here, though I do have an account; but Kino doesn't have an order history. I did get the Thanks For Your Order email, but that's it. So far, no answer to yesterday's email.

I called them on Monday to find out if I could add a title to my order and at that time they said that my order was processing. In the initial e mail it does say:

"Orders from recent closeout promotion may take extra time due to high volume of orders."

As for adding a title, they told me I would have been able to do it because my order hadn't shipped yet, but they said that every single title from the sale had sold out. I wasn't too surprised, but I was disappointed that I missed out on adding SUDDEN FEAR. However, I've since read that all of these titles may be heading over to COHEN MEDIA, so perhaps they will do a Blu on SUDDEN FEAR. The KINO DVD was not in very good shape and was bare bones.

Re: Kino $4.99 'Classic Clearance' sale - ends Jan. 31

When I logged into my CC account last night I found the charge had fully processed so I'm not going to bother contacting them. I figure I'll get a present on the doorstep in a week or so...

And ProfessorEcho, I did *not* pick up a copy of THE GAUCHO - mainly because I'd not heard of it and mainly wanted that box set. In hindsight I wish I'd have gone ahead and added it for that price... I was in somewhat of a hurry with my order fully expecting everything to sell out while I was checking out so didn't spend any time researching additional titles.

Re: Kino $4.99 'Classic Clearance' sale - ends Jan. 31

I just s/w Kino. The hold up is they ran out of stock on hand; they especially had a huge run on the Fairbanks box.

They're expecting more inventory on Friday. The guy said they did not oversell anything, so everyone who had an order go through should get a 100% fill.

He said they chose not to charge cards before shipping.
