Re: Big Lots Part 11 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Hit the local BL today. There was some new DVD stock, but nothing I found of interest. No new blus. Only new DVD box (to me) was "The Alphas" Season 1. Looked interesting, but not interesting enough for a $5 blind buy. Since Kirk Douglas just passed, I suspect if they had gotten any of the Douglas sets, they probably sold through them in 10 minutes if they even made it to the floor.

John, would it be worth the $5 blind buy for me?

I liked the show when it first aired on Syfy. Think a more real-world version of the X-Men with powers, set in a weekly procedural formula. They even ripped off Professor X. I wanted the show on Blu-ray but only came out on DVD.

Can't say; haven't seen it yet. On my 'to watch' pile.

We enjoyed both seasons of Alphas when it was available on Netflix (I think or maybe Amazon Prime). Can't remember if it ended on a cliffhanger for S2 or not. But I do remember we did hope for more episodes.

I've never heard of most of the others I found on DVD and BD. If you have an opinion on anything, let me know so I can target which ones I might pick up with future coupons.

FWIW, there was a single copy of each BD title, 1 or 2 of each DVD series.

Mr. Selfridge: Season 2 (PBS)
Van Helsing: Season 1
If they are trying to jam display or space with more new then that just means where u live that traffic does not care buy media much or not sure they even sell it any. i go different places and it random sales but some place got piles in bins which tell me traffic is not much for media do to streaming got some or many donating any they not want to places for space as if their stream service is gona have all they want anytime. been to my place last i checkd and scored season 2 and 3 of tom and jerry dvd but rest stuff was no interest or already had by chance. i pretty selective what i get now so i check random times. so for u it just means more chance u score any gold so to speak and just have a basket ready to add to it and then decide what want most any so easier to see and score some anytime.

^I donít know what I see in the racks at Dollar stores far more often: Devil Inside, The Robocop remake or any movie that has Liam Nesson pointing a handgun at someone.

Re: Big Lots Part 11 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

With the President's day add, I went to the local store. A few new items but nothing I remember. None of the movie & TV boxes that have been reported. I did pick up Alpha's S1 (they still had 3). Note the first one I picked up was an obvious re-wrap. I replaced it with another, The discs are clean, but the case is kinda wrinkled.

They also still had 3 Carousel 2 disc sets. The reason to get that (though it's hidden in th small print) is disc 2 has a decent print of Fritz Lang's 30's French Film, "Liliom". Not Lang's Best, but worth owning for a fan & not real easy to find.

The cheapest Sealed Kino Liliom on ebay is $18, & it's a slightly inferior print to the Universal.

I went today and couldn't find anything of interest. They had Kung Fu Yoga w/ Jackie Chan but I didn't feel like waiting in line for one movie.

Glad you are enjoying it. I wish there had been more episodes beyond S2 for sure.

If those Abbott and Costello stuff are the old "Franchise Collections" be sure to check them before the return window expires. Those were from Universal and on those notoriously bad DVD18s. I purchased them when they first came out and had to return a couple several times before I got discs that would play properly all the way through.

Seems like alot of watching just to get through. But thank you and I sincerely appreciate the heads up.

If I recall, Alphas' second season is far better as they drop the "case of the week" format for more involved, serialized storytelling.

Re: Big Lots Part 11 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Was at a store away from home that I visit from time to time.

Found and bought a few $5 TV shows (and had a $5 off $15 coupon in hand) that I hadn't seen before.

Colony: Season 1
Murder One: Season 1
Mr. Robot: Season 1

"Murder One" season one was excellent. Season two was just okay.

Picked up Maps to the Stars earlier. I saw 2 or 3 copies of Claude Rains' Phantom of the Opera but with no glow-in-the-dark slip (Odd)
