Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

I just got my V.7 From DD. Good news, it is factory pressed.

Now my ?: During BF, it seemed everyone ran out of V.6.

Does anyone know if the next batch of V.6 that's going to hit the distribution pipeline is going to be factory pressed or burned?

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

Can you tell without opening the case if these are pressed or burned?

Not that I'm aware of.

WB has it on ebay for $30. I emailed them yesterday, so far no reply.

I would think that once the pressed copies are gone, they will just burn future copies.

That is what they said. However the sets have been available at other e-trailers such as DVD planet and their stock was pressed. At least I bought Time Trax from them and it was pressed. Does Warner ship inventory to 3rd parties to sell in advance or do they just for-fill orders as they are received.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

I don't think there is much question that most retailers received pressed copies. My question is: it appears that all of Super D's copies sold out on BF. Does Warner have more pressed copies left, or are we down to MOD's? I will NOT pay this kind of money for burns, especially on the crummy media that's used.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

Warner just emailed me back regarding the version of V.6 they're selling in their ebay store,

"It is a MOD burned version."

CRAP.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

I ordered 6 and 7 from Deepdiscount on 12/2. 6 was listed as shipping in 5-10 days but both shipped on 12/4. I received them recently but I haven't opened them yet so I'm not sure how to tell if they are burned or pressed without opening them. I don't open them until I'm ready to watch. I did notice that the DVD icon on the Warner Archive discs-the ones I know are burned-says DVD with the word Download under it. Neither Forbidden 6 or 7 says "Download"; it's just DVD.

Ironically, if they cut the price in half & offered true dvd downloads, I'd probably bite on a few!

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

What I was trying to say was that while the sets were sold out at Warner Bros. and future sets from there would be burned, I thought it might be possible to get the sets pressed from places like DVD Planet if their stock was from the first pressing.

That could easily be an error by a lower level person. The back of the packaging says MOD even if they are pressed. Vol. 6 is still listed on Warner Archives's replicated disk page. Order from their, and if its not you can send it back. See: http://shop.warnerarchive.com/catego...scs.do?nType=1

Thanks, I bit. It does say "made to order"; I'll cross my fingers.........

I'm a little surprised they charged me sales tax.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

This is from my emailed receipt. I'm a bit nervous:

"Forbidden
Hollywood
Collection:
Volume 6
Media Type:
Made To
Order DVD
Item#
1000388404
Ships within 3
days."

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

This is from my invoice this past summer for Yogi's Gang:

Yogi's Gang

Media Type: Made To Order DVD
Item# 1000382530
Ships within 3 days.

Despite what it says, the disks were pressed. WA always has that made to order bit whether pressed or not. It is telling that apparently no one ever complains that they got pressed disks when they were told the disks were burned.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

I ordered my CRIME DOES NOT PAY shorts collection from Deep Discount nearly two years after its release and it was pressed. Granted, it's not as big of a seller as FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD, but I think they make lots of pressed copies. Good luck, Geff!

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

Everyone ran out of 6 during BF, which is why I am a bit concerned. The previous batch of 7's appears to still be out there.

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

I received my Vol 6 from DD today and it was pressed. Interesting that the label on the discs says DVD.
I wonder if when they switch to DVD-R will the label say DVD-R or more likely be blank. Would be an easy way to be certain of a pressed disc if labeled DVD. Can't think of another reason why the disc says DVD on it.

Mine also says dvd, & just above that has a disclaimer that it may not play in pc's & recorders (the standard Warner burned disclaimer).

Re: Warner/TCM Forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 Comment & Question

Can it be that WB has been issuing pressed discs for their single titles?

I had recently purchased The Secret Six,Whoopee! & Lucille Ball RKO Comedy collection, Vol. 1(2 discs) from Deep Discount. Although it's indicated on the box & discs that the Lucy collection is MOD(indicated as DVD Download), both the Secret Six & Whoopee are marked as DVD.

I checked the WA website & their recent releases are also labeled DVD on their box spines:
http://www.wbshop.com/category/wbsho...ew+releases.do

By the way, according to the box for each title, Lucy was issued in 2011, Secret Six in 2012, &
Whoopee! in 2013.

Is WA pulling a fast one in changing their labeling practices on their product or are they actually producing pressed discs for singles?

If you're right, I sure hope they publicize it. I am much more likely to purchase pressed titles.

Since you purchased them, can you tell if they are MOD or pressed? The only singles on the Warner Replicated Disks page are ones that Warner Archive rereleased for Paramount, and I assume that they are leftover Paramount disks.

I wound up comparing the SS & Whoopee! against 2 pressed titles, Forbidden Hollywood Vol 7 & the Bowery Boys Vol 1. The SS & Whoopee data-sided discs had a greyish silver color to them; the FH & SS discs were silver. On the printed side, the SS & Whoopee discs had "DVD" printed next to the WB logo & on the rim was printed "Standard MOD Disc", followed with the movie run time & other info; the FH & BB discs also had "DVD" printed next to the logo,
but on the rim a 10 digit # is printed between "Standard" & "MOD". All 4 titles have "DVD" printed on the spine of the title.

I also compared the Lucille Ball RKO Collection against the SS & Whoopee & found the only difference was the wording "DVD Download" labeled on the discs & on the spine; everything else was the same.

So unfortunately, my titles(and others) are still DVDr's.

The FB V6 I received is factory pressed. I can't comment on any other current titles, other than the V7 I got last month was also pressed.
