Gulliver's Travels Fleischer animated feature offer
The Fleischer Studio's classic animated feature Gulliver's Travels will be given special treatment!
They will be transferring a 35mm IB technicolor film print, full frame (and the correct aspect ratio of course) What you'll get: A DVD recordable of the transfer with chapters. An HD Mpeg-4 quicktime of the film on a separate DVD recordable disc (this will play on a computer, but also on many Bluray players) The transfer may be used for an eventual BluRay/DVD release of the film, but it would be sometime far down the road (after restoration and a lot of time into bonus features). This movie has been available in crappy public domain copies but this transfer would be miles ahead of anything previously available. This special DVD set will be available for a limited time for members of the DVD Talk forum only. It's $14 plus $2 postage. $3 for outside of the USA. Paypal is [email protected] This is a great opportunity to finally see this classic the way it looked back in the day. I have sung the praises of Thunderbean Animation releases here in the past and I already ordered my copy. I strongly recommend their work. |

I loved this cartoon as a kid. I think I got it through netflix a while back. Must have been one of those public domain transfers.

They should try doing a kickstarter and start off with a regular br/dvd release instead of a DVDR. They'd probably get more funds going that way.

Re: Gulliver's Travels Fleischer animated feature offer
Does anyone know what print Turner Classic Movies used when they ran Fleischer's GT awhile ago (last October I think, they also ran Fleischer's Mr. Bug Goes to Town that night).
I know Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels has been plagued by too many terrible public domain animated releases over the years. Wherever the copy that ran on TCM came from seemed in reasonably good condition. (of course a good restoration would help it to look even better) If anyone is interested in checking out the copy running on TCM, it is scheduled to run Friday, April 12th at 7:15 AM Eastern. |
Re: Gulliver's Travels Fleischer animated feature offer
fyi This is what was initially said about the Gulliver dvd:
Gulliver's Travels from 35mm IB tech (I recently have access to a beautiful print and have been debating doing one of those 'special' discs with a DVD and high def Mpeg-maybe even this week). It would clearly be the best version of the film available. The thinking here is to eventually release an HD version of it. This print is miles ahead of the recent TCM broadcast (that was a 16mm print) and better than the best DVD version. |

I would be up for it - Thunderbean's releases are generally fantastic.

The top one is the Koch release which I understand was transferred from a VHS tape. The bottom one is the Thunderbean related film print transfer. |

That print is in impressive condition, it looks like it only just a bit of restoration is needed

The e-mail address given for use with PayPal belongs to a non-registered user. Does it seem likely a person offering to sell copies of this via PayPal would not have registered with the site? Just wanna make sure!

Re: Gulliver's Travels Fleischer animated feature offer
I have sent payments several times to Steve at that paypal address and have received the dvd projects with out any problem so unless something has changed I think it should be fine. As far as I know the Gulliver's Travels are going to be sent out this weekend. Hooray!

...and this is what Thunderbean has for sale currently:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/main/re...=AKK5M0EM2CKQI I cannot recommend the Cartoons for Victory comps,Noveltoons and Private Snafu sets enough but everything Thunderbean releases is exceptional and most have bonus features that make the package worth buying in and of itself. You cannot go wrong :)
