Deep Discount 25% Off Sale (11/12) has started...

For anyone that still cares.

Lukewarm deals here and there (I did find a couple things a few bucks cheaper than the lowest price elsewhere) but as has been the case for the last few years YMMV- greatly.

Much happier now that I pre-ordered quite a few things when DVD Empire had its 40% off Bd sale in early October. Overall, the prices I locked in then blow away DDs now.

Some decent deals on Kino titles... the new Fritz Lang set is $21.94 which is the cheapest I've seen it.

Answered my own question. Ends 11/19. I may nab the restored Die Nibelungen also.

It's not like it used to be, but there usually are good bargains out there on particular titles. You just have to find them.

Also be aware that if you use Google Wallet for a purchase on something that's gone OOP that shows as being in stock, but really isn't, you still get charged when you place your order and not when it ships.

Just had this happen to me and it took a couple weeks of bothering them before they finally refunded me.

I don't recommend using Pay Pal with DD either.

The free ship increase to $25 bites. Thanks for letting us know.

What a joke - about the only thing DD had going for it was that it generally worked out to be a little cheaper thanks to shipping - no longer.

^^ & ^^^ VCC (Virtual Credit Card)... the *only* way to do business on the internet and especially with vendors like DD because of their odd OOP "policies" and practices.

They *still* show as "Usually ships in 5-10 days" a pair of horror DVDs I ordered 2 months ago. That order was cancelled and when I contacted them about it they said the titles are OOP so they cancelled the order. I *never* got a cancellation notice and only found out when I checked my account after 2 weeks of non-shipment.

It *still* can work out a little cheaper but now I look at them in much the same way as Amazon. With a $25 free shipping minimum purchase I'll do far fewer purchases and generally only make a purchase during a "sale".

I looked up a few things and it seems they are not included in the sale. I will probably check back to see if anyone list anything that I'am interested in. I wonder if they will extend the sale, again?

A pale shadow of its old self. Probably a few deals in there, but it requires interminable searching to find them. I'm not sure I care to spend the time.

Can you reccomend a good "virtual" credit card?

I think it's important to keep in mind the original Deep Discount DVD model was not a financial success. It's my understanding that the company that started DD DVD was sold under financial dureess.

Sure ... I liked the "old" DD DVD ... but I can easily understand how they probably lost money on single DVD purchses with free shipping.

The sales price doesn't show when I check my wishlist either. Click on the items to see if they are included in the sale.

I use CitiBank but you would need to check with your card issuer to see if this is something they offer as this is typically tied to an existing physical card. I believe Discover offers the VCC option.

Yup, wholesaler Super D currently owns DD & about 10 other net retailers.

WOW!! Their prices have really gone up again. I also noticed that for the items that have the 25% off sale the prices are what the old regular price used to be very recently without the 25% off!

Items without the 25% off have also gone up in price.

Maybe they are not doing well again? I guess it's a sign of the times.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Off Sale (11/12) has started...

I looked through 10 pages @ 48/page, had to stop. I see better prices on these at Walmart and Target. Several of the ones in my wish list are included in this sale but it seems to me like they've jacked the prices up on them so that 25% off isn't that big of a deal anymore. At any rate I don't have the time nor the inclination to look through 877 more pages of higher prices. -kd5-

Last time they changed the prices like amazon does to make them more appealing using pricing software. Maybe at some point the prices will be made more appealing.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Off Sale (11/12) has started...

Love this sale! I easily knocked off 20 releases off my wishlist, which, thanks also to my recent Hamilton Books order, has me down to a one page, two column list now. It's almost like I'm nearing the end of an era ... *snif* ...

The haul:

Burning Moon 10.30
Cloak & Dagger 8.79
Cramps, The: Live at Napa State Mental Hospital 11.75
Devil's Rain, The 10.11
Exposed 12.55
Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster 10.48
Jesus Camp 8.89
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 8.89
Naked Truth 6.98
Too Many Crooks/ Make Mine Mink 6.81
Psychomania 10.13
Reno 911: Complete Second Season 14.55
Repo Man 12.08
Rocketeer 8.32
Simon Says 8.33
Stomp Live 10.41
Tales From the Darkside: The First Season 14.66
Karate-Robo Zaborgar 9.60
Woyzeck 11.27
Death Ship 11.11

Total: 208.87

Exact same order at Amazon: 250.89 (at this writing)

I'm pretty pleased. And if Deep Discount ships as they've shipped to me AT LEAST the last five times I've ordered from them, I'll get this shipment in a week.

Holy shit moment: As I was writing that very last sentence, my phone dings ... the whole shebang is being shipped today. Not a miss among the batch, and I ordered this bad boy at around 9am EST. Can't wait for my "Karate-Robo Zaborgar"/ "Death Ship" double feature next Thursday!

Not to be a buzz killer, but I've gotten a few of those titles for less than half that "discount" price. But if you're happy with DD, so be it. Enjoy.
