MOD titles (Becker/Night Court)- any point in waiting for a cheaper retail release?
Hey all,
I'm debating picking up these titles (Becker is Amazon's Createspace and Night Court is WB MOD) but really balking at the prices (avg $30/season).
For example the first three seasons of Night Court which were traditional pressed retail releases have dropped to $10 but the MOD's never seem to really alter in price. Becker has been a MOD title since S1.
Would I be tilting at windmills to hope another company (like Mill Creak and the Third rock From the Sun titles) would release these cheaper sometime or is once an overpriced MOD always an overpriced MOD?

Some MODs have made the transition to actual retail/pressed releases, but so far no TV titles, as far as I know. Some of the MOD Night Court sets have been pressed, but not all. Usually you can catch them on sale at the Warner website within months after release. I've usually get them around $20, by waiting for a sale. Not great by retail standards, but not as bad as full release price.

I'd think the only chance for getting Mods factory pressed & at a good price would be to find some of the titles on European PAL discs. Most likely from indie PD labels; but possibly at blow out prices from Euro majors. A lot of Classic American films have had official factory pressed releases in either the UK or Spain/Portugal that have never seen DVD here. Think Veronica Lake, & some mid period Joan Crawford's & Barbara Stanwyck's to name a few.

Yes the first 3 seasons were available at Flying J/Pilot truck stops for around 12.99 each a couple years back. Some were still lingering a few months ag so your mileage may vary but definitely worth checking out.

I am in sort of the same situation with a mgm amazon exclusive mod. I want the second season of Poltergeist Legacy and its $57. I can't affort to pay that for it. And I am sure if I did break down and buy it, that the very next week it would be available for preorder cheap with all kinds of extras.

The reason the studios went with MOD was because retail sales were poor and they were stuck with inventory that was dumped. Rather than discontinuing poor sellers as in the past and have fans mad that series were not completed they have made the series available at a higher price for those who are willing to pay.
