I live in Columbia right across the river, so I ran down yesterday because I've never been to a Big Lots but I have heard of people finding great deals there from time to time. I was hopeful that I could find a copy of Legend for $5 because I've been waiting for a decent price drop for a while now...but no luck.
I am actually surprised how many people are here from south central PA. I used to hit most of the stores in this area, but Lancaster+York has been serving most of my needs, combined with high fuel prices...unless I just feel like driving. You do know there's a BL in Lancaster at the Manor Shopping Center (by the Manor Cinema)? It's got to be closer than East York, even if the shortest distance isn't by highway. Personally, I'm looking for Birdy, Amazon Women on the Moon, and The Car, if anybody locally can find them. I wouldn't drive as far as Boyertown (but I did buy a used car up there 1 1/2 years ago), but could probably make an excuse to drive anywhere else. :) |
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
Just happened to go by the Bridgewater, Mass. location for work and decided to stop and take a look even though my previous visit was vastly disappointing. Sure enough, the wire rack is only about 1/2 full. Mostly all stuff that's been around forever except for a new batch of $5 Christmas stuff. Once I saw Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for five bucks I quit looking. Then, low and behold, out of the corner of my eye, I see the 6-foot tall cardboard monolith that has been everywhere else months ago, yet not here. Upon further investigation, THAT too was ravaged down to about half full, maybe less. Thought I would only find old stuff but I looked anyway. Needless to say, I was surprised to come across some titles I hadn't previously seen before...
$3 Ned and Stacey: The Complete First Season After Hours All Monsters Attack Baby, the Rain Must Fall...slimcase Felicity: An American Girl Adventure Houdini's Death Defying Acts March of the Penguins...widescreen Preacher's Kid The Stalking Moon The War Lover...slimcase Who's That Knocking At My Door The two slimcase titles I mentioned were probably part of a bigger Steve McQueen set, just so you know. And I know March of the Penguins has been around forever, but only in fullscreen around here. |
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
I don't know if this is for everyone, but if this is an example of the "NEW BUZZ CLUB" reward, then we are SOL.
Spoiler:
A whole week to use it!!! |
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
^Well... it *is* 20% off as long as you stop at $50. The 1 week limit is a bit short IMHO. I keep expecting a change here but so far it's the same as it's always been. Very puzzling... are they testing this new "improved" version in certain parts of the country?
|
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
$10 off $50 is their normal BF deal too. I wonder if they'll stack that day (probably not). I didn't see the 1 per week restriction in the image.
I don't buy that much from BL, least of all DVDs, and when I do buy from BL I just wait for their (usually) quarterly 20% off Sunday sale for everyone, so these program changes won't affect me as much as it will others. I hope they don't take those periodic 20% off sales away. |

Went to our local Big Lots yesterday, don't get there as often as I used to, wanted to see their Halloween DVD display and see what new ones they had. This Big Lots (Boardman, OH.) is a write off as far as I'm concerned. No Halloween DVD display, no new DVDs whatsoever, still just the original wire rack with all the same old shit. My wife & I both left empty-handed. -kd5-

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
There was a "new" 4 sided cardboard monstrosity here yesterday and I was excited for a few minutes until I realized it was restock titles in the 2 waterfall sections and they'd put overflow from the 2 large waterfalls and wire rack in the sides and bottom slots. Bummer...

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
Lancaster got a nice, new batch of titles. Actually, I think they received a whole new tower. The old one was beginning to fall apart, but this one seems sturdy again. I likely failed to note several slim cases...
All $3 Lottery Ticket Teen Titans: Divide and Conquer Vol 1 Teen Titans: Switched Vol 2 Green Lantern: First Flight Felicity: An American Girl Adventure Heidi 2005 (full screen) Starship Troopers 3 (with slipcover) The Right Stuff Imax: Hubble Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers (slim case) It Came From Beneath the Sea (slim case) 20 Million Miles to Earth (slim case) Do the Right Thing: 20th Anniversary 2-disk Bloodworth The War Lover My Date With Drew My Fellow Americans (full screen) After Hours Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore Who's That Knocking at My Door Any Which Way You Can Bronco Billy Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: Genesis Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: The Passion Charlton Heston Presents the Bible: The Story of Moses Baby, the Rain Must Fall Hair Spray (2007) Caddyshack 2 (full screen) See Spot Run Beautiful People: The Complete Series Alien Autopsy Romantic Comedy Flipped Chisum John Wayne Triple Feature: The Big Stampede / Ride Him, Cowboy / Haunted Gold Death Toll The Stalking Moon The Green Berets Nothing But Trouble (full screen) Battle Of the Bulge Quantum of Solace with 2009 calendar $5 plus a restock of other Bond titles West York received many of the above titles and is stocked better than they've been in months. East York hasn't gotten anything new since they opened their doors. |

Does anybody look at the Big Lots exchange thread anymore?

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
Found a few interesting (to me anyway) titles yesterday, all $3:
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (1960s science fiction) Easy Living (Jean Arthur, Edward Arnold, written by Preston Sturges) House Calls (Walter Mathau, Glenda Jackson) Hell's Angels (Howard Hughes production) Sweet Liberty (one of a glut of movies that Alan Alda directed based on his success with M*A*S*H, good cast but not very well reviewed) The Don is Dead (Anthony Quinn, Robert Forster) A Man Called Sledge (James Garner, Laura Antonelli, directed by Vic Morrow) Flash of Genius (will make a good double bill with Made in Dagenham) The Gathering (Ed Asner, Maureen Stapleton, TV movie) Teeth (directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein) Strange Brew (directed by Moranis and Thomas) |
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
The BL's in Boyertown,Pa. has been open a few months with no TV series DVD's except for the mini-series "Traffic"
I finally found and purchased the following for $3 on Sunday: Huff-the complete season Strong Medicine-S1 P.S. That Beautiful People complete series with Daphne Zuniga mentioned on an earlier posting, was part of last Non-Dec 2012 batch of DVD's at the Dollar Tree for $1. |
Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
Beware of picking up Mackenna's Gold. On the case it says the movie is "1:85 anamorphic widescreen", but when I went to play it, it went from a letterbox format(!) to pan & scan!!!!
Here is a post listing titles that Sony reissued to either widescreen or full screen: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/6263299-post23.html Guess I will be saving my copy for the next Best Buy U&S. |

I'd love to pick up Hell's Angels @ $3! Easy Living sounds interesting also.
