Went to the Niles, IL one today and it was just depressing to witness...crappy movies and no TV shows whatsoever at this locale but ended up buying some DVD covers for a few bucks, so at least the trip wasn't wasted.

Neither of the Big Lots in this area have anything worth a damn anymore. Used to be fun to go to Big Lots and peruse the DVDs, now it's just a joke.

Found a lot of TV seasons at one of our Big Lots but they were all Two and a Half Men, Gilmore Girls, Friends, and Nip Tuck. No thanks...

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I saw the sign for the color coded clearance sale today. I went through all the titles and found 13 DVDs that I thought might be the right color for the 90% off. 4 were full price, 2 were 50% off and the rest were 90% off. Here's what I grabbed:

$0.30
American Dreamz
Drop Squad
The Marc Pease Experience
Players
Stella Street
Talk To Me

$0.60
American Flyers/Victory

$1.50
The Flying Scotsman

$3.00
Bats
The Big Tease
Coming Unglued/Perfect People (marked $6)
Duck Season
Offside

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I decided to go through some old receipts and make a list of SKUs that are on clearance. I can't remember the colors, but I figure the SKUs can be helpful. If anyone has found other clearance SKUs that they would like to add, please do. Also, a few of these are from the original clearance list and it's possible they have dropped since then. I'm pretty sure these are permanent price changes so if you find any of these SKUs instore, they should not ring up full price. Of course, I could be wrong.

Most of these SKUs are generic, but some may be specific. I know one definitely is.

50% off:
$3 titles:
550018440
810096167

$6 titles:
550016842 (double features)

$6.88 blu-rays:
810097040 (this is specific to It's Complicated, but all $6.88 blu-rays should be marked down)

$7 titles:
810667842 (triple features?)
810062327 (blu-rays)

70% off:
$7 blu-rays:
810060438
810060448

90% off:
$3 titles:
550014209
550017544
550017203

$6 titles:
550017204 (double feature?)

$10 titles:
550017553

The clearance is still long over at the stores by me, & it was never as good here as some of you describe. Though I will admit these days I only go to the 2 closest BL's, because their stock (at least around here) is junk.

I do have a new style coupon: a flat $5 off $20 OR MORE.

Long over meaning said titles are all gone? I don't think you can ever been 100% sure of that. I bet every store still has some clearance stragglers.

Long over meaning no longer on sale? Of that, I'm not sure. We really don't know what the deal is with these clearance sales. We don't know if they're nation-wide or not or if the sales are a limited time only or not. You would think that since it's a way to clear stock, it's a permanent markdown. Keeping a list of clearance SKUs can certainly help determine such things.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

"Long over" meaning the clearance signs came down about 2 months ago.

I just went to Pearl Street. The ONLY thing I could find to purchase was a package of 100 paper plates for $1.90.

I may be moving. If I do, I'd likely go back & buy a few of the 35 gallon tubs.

THAT's ALL I SAW of any value to me.

I used to spend $1k-$1.5k a month at bl.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

It's my birthday today and I had a $5 off $15 coupon to use, so I decided to drive to a Big Lots I haven't been to in a few years. Of course, I forgot my clearance SKU list, and there was no clearance sign, but I managed to find a few anyway. Here's what I picked up:

$0.30 (90% off $3)
John Wayne Triple Feature (The Big Stampede/Ride Him, Cowboy/Haunted Gold)
EZ Streets

$0.60 (90% off $6)
About A Boy/American Dreamz

$1.25 (75% off $5)
Half a Sixpence

$1.50 (50% off $3)
The Muse

$2.10 (70% off $7)
MGM Musical collection (Absolute Beginners/Without You I'm Nothing/The Phantom of the Opera/The Saddest Music in the World)

The downside to grabbing clearance titles is that I didn't spend enough to use my coupon. I almost grabbed The Teahouse of the August Moon, since it looked like a possible clearance title, but I put it back. I was also going to get My Soul To Take (blu-ray) since it had a $6.88 sticker, but it rang up full price. My new thought it that most stickers without the name of the color on them should be on clearance.

Anyway, here are some new clearance SKUs I found:

50% off $3
810082088

70% off $7
810060521

75% off $5
550017546

90% off $3
810060403

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Okay, I may have a problem with these clearance DVDs. I can't seem to stop buying them. I decided to hit up my local store and grabbed pretty much everything I thought could be marked down. Only a couple rang up full price. Here's what I got:

$0.20 (one had a $2 sticker over the $3 sticker, so maybe they were marked down to $2 a while ago and they're 90% off that?)
Deal of a Lifetime
Second String

$0.30 (90% off $3)
Cricket on the Hearth
The Big Tease
Chain of Fools

$1 (90% off $10)
ESPN Sports 3-Pack (Wide World of Sports 40 Years of Glory/Sportcenter Year in Review 2006/Remembering Marshall)
Dead Man's Walk
Surviving Sharks

$2 ($3 sticker)
The List

Originally stickered $48
Total paid: $6.69

New SKUs:
$0.20 (maybe stickered $2 or $3)
550014447
550018594

90% off $3
810021498
810021478

90% off $10
810061504

I may try to hit up another store this weekend. I figure clearing out their old stock is good for us because it means more room for new stock, right?

Big Lots has been trying to get rid of those titles since 2008, especially the Sportscenter Year in Review 2006. I must have come across it at just about every Big Lots in that time period. I believe I paid $2.40 for that set in 2010.

You're welcome. I hope it's helpful. I've found it easiest to just pull everything with a sticker that doesn't have the name of the color on it and then check the SKUs.

The store where I picked up the 3 pack must have had about about 9-12 copies, but since they're all marked $10 instead of $1, they're not going to sell. As for Sportscenter Year in Review 2006, one of the stores I go to had at one point 30 copies or so. And they've sat there forever, even though I think they've been a buck a piece (probably cheaper now). I can't remember if they still had them the last time I went.

Re: Big Lots Part 10 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I stopped by the last store around me to find some marked down titles. It look liked someone had started to go through them and put clearance stickers on some titles, but quickly gave up. Here's what I picked up:

$0.20 (originally $3)
Bleacher Bums
The Rachel Papers
Alfie (2004) (widescreen version)

$0.30 (90% off $3)
Pontiac Moon
Pray TV
The Learning Curve
The Flying Scotsman

$0.75 (75% off $3)
Scoop

$0.90 (70% off $3)
Fast Food Nation

$1.50 (50% off $3)
In The Company of Men
Storefront Hitchcock
The History Boys

$1.50 (75% off $6)
Z-Rock season 1 (previously viewed)

$2.10 (70% off $7)
The Thomas Crown Affair (blu-ray)

$3 (70% off $10)
Spin City Season 1

$3.50 (30% off $5)
An American Carol (blu-ray)

$8
The Help (blu-ray) - $8

After using my $5 off $15 coupon, it was about $23.

The sticker on An American Carol is just orange and white with the SKU number and a barcode, not the usually Big Lots stickers. I think those types of stickers should be on clearance as well (except for The Lorax set perhaps?) I hate that there are so many different SKUs. I had grabbed two copies of Scoop with different SKUs and took the cheaper copy (the other was $0.90). I also ended up not taking Wildfire season 1 and Dave's World season 1 (both with $10 stickers, rang up $5).

Here's the new SKUs I found:

$0.20 (originally $3)
550019028

$0.30 (90% off $3)
810049588
810021492

$0.75 (75% off $3)
550017550

$0.90 (70% off $3)
810062321

$1.50 (50% off $3)
550019422
550019420

$1.50 (75% off $6) (previously viewed)
550018196

$2.10 blu-ray (70% off $7)
810062327

$3 (70% off $10)
810067941

$3.50 blu-ray (30% off $5)
810114937

So, I've realized that there are probably a lot more SKUs than I would have thought. Also, there doesn't seem to be any obvious pattern in what titles are marked down. You can easily tell when titles showed up at Big Lots by comparing the SKUs. The smaller numbers have been there longer. SKUs originally started with 55 until sometime in 2012 when they changed to 81. However, older stock doesn't seem to mean it will have a larger mark down. One of the $0.30 titles came up as Jan 2013 on the receipt, but there are some older titles ringing up only 50% off. It makes me wonder if it's not only how long it's been there, but also how abundant it is throughout the country.

Also, I messaged Big Lots on Facebook about the clearance SKUs and they said they will send me a list.

Would you care to elaborate? I'm very curious if what I've noticed (like SKUs or stickers without the name of the color on them) is helpful or if I'm just trying to see logic where there isn't any. I need data, people! Honestly, I'm wondering if I'm just wasting my time here or if what I've said has helped. I'm sorry if I seem a little obsessive, but I'm just very curious. Thanks.

Rex, is there ANY clearance signage in the stores you're going to, or do they ring up at these prices with no advertising of any kind?

One store, I never saw any sign. The other two, I have seen signs, but they may not have been up when I made my purchase. The store I was at yesterday, I can't remember if I ever saw the latest clearance sign there, but I did see the previous one. The other store had the latest sign up all last week, but it was gone today. Dave's World season 1 still rang up $1 instead of $10. That said, I can't say for sure if these discounts are nationwide and permanent, but it couldn't hurt to ask the cashier for a price check.

Oh, and I made a pic to help people know what to look for (these style of tags, but they may come in different colors):

Ignore these style of tags (if it has the name of the color of the tag on it, it's probably not marked down):

I did a price check on 6 dvds that fit the description above at the Northampton, MA Big Lots.

My Name Is Earl S1 - priced $10, rang up $7
License to Kill - priced $5, rang up 50 cents
Little Miss Marker - priced $3, rang up $2.10
What Goes Up - priced $3, rang up $2.10
Martial Arts Classics Double Feature: Jade Lion/The Bloody Fists - priced $5, rang up $5

I can't remember the name of the 6th one, but it was priced $5 and rang up for $5. So I guess it's hit and miss. Thanks for the info, though. I got My Name Is Earl, License to Kill, and a few others at regular price.

Big Lots asked on their Facebook page what the main thing was people came into their stores for- you can guess what I answered.

Sorry, what I meant was what's ringing up at the register is what's stickered on the case. No signs of any discount - there were some, some time ago but not anymore.

Did you find any of the SKUs I have mentioned? SKUs are really the most important detail because it will help determine if these titles are marked down in every store, or if prices vary by store or region. As far as I can tell, it appears to be SKUs starting with 5500 or 8100. However, I have found a few that are ringing up full price for whatever reason.

And for now, let's assume that a sign does not have to be present for titles to ring up for less.

Nope. Yes, I am basing it off of having no signage. I shall put on my Hardy Boys hat tomm and go investigate further armed with SKU #s

It doesn't make sense to me why they would choose to have a sale with no signage! Especially of this magnitude.
