It never came up for sale. If you look at the black friday page on the website, it says "* Available online starting Friday, November 25 *".

My question (from the previous page) still stands.

Anyone? -kd5-

as I said above, if you look here, it says "* Available online starting Friday, November 25 *". From that, you can assume you will be able to but it is only as assumption till it goes live.

Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see if BB honors their free shipping on a single DVD BF purchase. -kd5-

For some reason, every time I try to use one of their coupon codes, it never actually works. I found a used tv series I wanted, but when I put the coupon code in, it says it had been applied to the order, but the price was exactly the same.

Same exact thing happened during one of their Halloween sales.

Probably cause their shipping prices are so much you dont notice the difference. They have great used prices and I've used them alot over the last couple months...but they need to start offering free shipping. I have 6 dvds in my cart totaling 9 buckss and the shipping is 13. Ridiculous

Paste, that's happening because only certain items qualify for the discounts. Their site is such corn in dog shit that you often can't tell what's part of the promotion until you apply the code and wait to see if the price changes.

GoHastings has this same sale several times a year so as a Black Friday deal this is utter crap. Offering Free or reduced shipping would have made this worthy of Black Friday but as it is, bleh.

With this and VCI pretty much out of it this year, it looks like I'm saving more money than I intended. Not a bad thing, of course, but still disappointing when you're eagerly looking for bargains.

Re: Black Friday 2011 - The DVD thread

GoHastings will have "up to" 40% off on used movies come Monday with a promo code. I hope the "up to" is just terrible wording, and I'm assuming since you have to apply a promo code, it'll just be 40% off used DVDs.

You can do the math for yourself, but free shipping isn't always the answer with GoHastings. At a certain price point it makes more sense to do free shipping over 30% or 40% off and vice versa. Or 96 cent shipping versus a certain percentage off.

For example, if you're holding out for free shipping, if your used DVD is 'regularly' priced at $5.70, its the same thing either way with free shipping or 40% off. If its more expensive than that, go for the 40% off code on Monday. If its less, risk it and hold out for a free shipping promotion.

I personally don't bother with GoHastings for DVDs. They all come in such shit condition for used DVDs with tons of scratches and cover art that looks like a dog chewed on it. They also mix in previously viewed rental DVDs that have been traded back in and classify them as "used" meaning you can get a DVD that has less features and stuff. They claim they don't do it, but they definitely do and their store employees are pretty terrible. They'll just grab anything that looks right by the title, and not check SKUs or Used versus Previously Viewed. They'll always give you a refund but after a while it just becomes a hassle to send things back so I just stopped ordering used DVDs from them.

Right now they have 30% off all new and used books. They go as high as 40% off used books at other times, but 30% off new is a pretty good deal since their prices are fairly competitive with Amazon/BN on a lot of new books, but of course, not all new books. Their used books come in excellent condition most of the time, especially hardcovers.

I've never had a problem with the DVDs I've gotten from them. I think I've gotten like 30 from them over the last month or 2. $.96 on a used DVD is always awesome too. Thats the last promo I used.

Will Wal Mart have special displays or can I grab what I want at at like 9 and wait to checkout?

In recent years, sale items have been repackaged with a special bar code attached to them. Presumably, it rings up at the sale price during sale hours (that allows them to keep track of stuff that wanders from one bin or display rack to another during the day). I'd presume those codes wouldn't work before or after the right time (although it's only an hour from now anyway).

I picked up Breaking Bad, Seasons 1 & 2, for $12.99 each from Amazon. I think that this is all I'll be doing, DVD-wise, this Thanksgiving.

Also, the sale items are usually wrapped up in special displays that you can't access until the appointed time.

Slightly off topic, but TV's are dirt cheap this year. Best deal for the $'s I've seen was a 46" 1080P Westinghouse at Target for $299.

Walking Dead season one *special edition* mixed in with the regular edition in the $10 bin at Wal-Mart. Stickered as a "promo" and got it for that price.

Other $10 TV seasons seen at the Walmart feeding frenzy in my town:

Justified S1
The Big Bang Theory S1, S2, S3
Sons of Anarchy S1, S2, S3
True Blood S1, S2
The Vampire Diaries S2
Six Feet Under S1, S4, S5
East Bound and Down S1
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia S1&2, S3, S4, S5
Bones S2
Glee S1

...and lots more. The whole experience had a certain "pool of piranha" feel to it, however, and I was glad to get out within 45 minutes of entering the store.

last year walmart let you inside and line up at whatever deal you wanted. worked GREAT

this year they advertise how they stay open so you dont have to wait outside...yet they made you wait outside. they only let so many people in at a time. waited 2 hours in line and left as the line was making no progress..

Re: Black Friday 2011 - The DVD thread

I started off at Big Lots around 6:30 hoping to grab some cheap TV seasons and there was virtually nothing left. Just JAG and Walker Texas Ranger. I did however find CSI Miami S4 for 6$ though and it was the last one they had of any CSI.

I then went to Wal-Mart at around 8:30 and waited near the TV season boxes after grabbing Redneck Zombies: 20th Anniversary Edition from the 5$ bin. It was weird because I couldn't find True Blood or Big Bang Theory but that was because the boxes they had them in were 4-way displays and most of the 4-way's were pushed together so you couldn't see what was on display on the sides. They ended up tearing the plastic wrap down around 9:30 (a half hour earlier than expected) and everyone went bananas. I grabbed True Blood S1-2 and Big Bang Theory S1-2 for 10$ each which to me is a good deal. I also shot over and grabbed a Blu-Ray/DVD player combo for 50$ then put it all in my car and headed over to Best Buy.

I got to Best Buy and the line was gigantic, it was wrapped around multiple times and ended up in the back of the building. They were handing out tickets but I just wanted to go in and get the DVD's. After about an hour of waiting I shot in and grabbed Mad Men S1, Family Guy Volume 8, and White Collar S1 for 8.99$ each. Then I went over to where the 99 cent DVD's were and most were gone already, I was pretty mad they didn't have Fletch as advertised but I got a zombie movie called Autumn (impulse buy) instead. The check-out line for Best Buy was wrapped the whole way throughout the store and I waited about 20 minutes to get checked out.

Most of the DVD's/Blu-Ray's at Wal-Mart were gone after about 10 minutes and there wasn't really anything unexpected that was put on sale at either Wal-Mart or Best Buy except the Walkind Dead S1 Special Edition at Wal-Mart mentioned earlier.

Is the Gossip Girl S4 lightning deal messed up for anyone else? I woke up a couple a minutes before it was set to go live and apparently it's now for $12.99 and been live for a while(even though everything else just started).
