The Essential Art House V1 at $30 is tempting.

Neither did I... so I picked it up through B&N with a coupon. I'm on the fence about getting Alphaville. I don't remember enjoying it. But being told its OOP makes me want to own it.

Re: Out-of-print Criterion Collection titles Sale @ Amazon

The reason many of these are OOP on DVD is because they are being prepped for BD. Of course, some might be due to timed out licensing issues with the studios. But expect many of these to be on BD in the future.

Re: Out-of-print Criterion Collection titles Sale @ Amazon

Most, if not all of these are OOP because StudioCanal owned the rights and, as soon as Criterion's license expired, they made an arrangement with Lionsgate for exclusive distribution of their titles.

Lionsgate has since released Contempt on Blu-ray, but hasn't shown much interest in getting any of the others out - so if you're looking to have any of these in the near future, you might want to pick them up now. They may get upgraded to Blu-ray eventually, but considering Lionsgate's current pace of getting their catalog titles out I wouldn't count on it happening any time soon - especially for some of the smaller titles like The Small Back Room and Port of Shadows (both of which are quite wonderful, and well worth buying, in my opinion.)

For those who aren't aware, Alphaville is one of their earliest discs, and it leaves quite a bit to be desired in the A/V department. It's also a rare barebones Criterion release - so if you're not a big fan of the film and don't have to own it right away, that'll probably be one of the best to hold off on since any re-release from any studio is probably going to be an improvement.

Edit: This link shows that these are all StudioCanal titles.

Sid and Nancy has been OOP longer.I see it going used from around $30 to $200 .The latter price being over priced.

It's coming to blu-ray on
This title will be released on December 27, 2011.:)

It's already available as a non-Criterion Blu as a Best Buy exclusive. I bought it last month.

Bought The Small Back Room to add to my P&P collection. Usually don't pay that much, but don't want to get stuck with a collection hole.

Bought the Art House V1. 3 & 4 are also at $29.99

Best not dawdle. Several titles that were sold direct from Amazon at 50% have disappeared--Le Trou, The Fallen Idol, to name two--and others like Pierrot Le Fou have gone up in price.

not from Criterion. they are all gone for good due to rights issue, almost all are Studio Canal titles. Not sure where you got your info, but it's wrong.

I know it is true but it is sad. Who really wants to license their films to Lionsgate for a subpar release? They release movies like The Expendables and Saw. I guess they think by putting them out by this more "mainstream" studio that people that had no interest before will suddenly be interested.

It seems like Pierrot le Fou has been OOP forever, yet there are always plenty of relatively low-priced copies floating around.

If there's a Blu-ray it won't come from Criterion so if you want the Criterion extras buy the DVD.

The EAH boxes have all disappeared, except for #1, which has gone up to $84.99. Some of the individual EAH titles are still available at discount. I just ordered EAH Le Jour Se Leve for $12.49. If you have any of the OOP EAH titles on your wishlist, this may be your last opportunity to get them.

That's odd because I just looked at the site and the EAH boxes were gone, but going through your link, I see they are there. #3 is a definite purchase.
