Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

Ah, now see, here's the kind of thing that I can pitch a bitch about on Deep Discount:

I've got my paycheck, and now I'm in the process of putting my finds in my shopping cart. But, wait! NOTHING that I want to get is showing up in their search!

Does that mean it's been pulled? EVERYTHING's been pulled?

NO! I google "deepdiscount (title of film)" and it comes up ... well, mostly; I can't get Vampire Circus to come up, nor Venture Bros Season 4 Vol. 2, for some strange reasons.

Sigh and double sigh. I guess I have to wait 'til this gets fixed ... damn DD ...

The Young Indiana Jones sets were $27 via Amazon earlier this year. Ever since finding one second hand for $10 or $12 I've been sitting it out to see if they'll go lower. --Peter

Yeah and they were even cheaper on bn.com May 2010 where I got all 3 for $67 total.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

What's up with DD not carrying The Dorm That Dripped Blood? I was able to find the product page through Google, but it lists it as unavailable. Weird because I think I found all the other Synapse Blu-ray titles.

Thank you greatly. That helped me throw away more income.

Here's the damage (all DVD, except the Blu/DVD combo of "Vampire Circus"):

Brian Regan: Epitome of Hyperbole - 7.97
Circle of Iron (2 disc) - 9.96
Destroy All Monsters (preorder) - 10.16
Godzilla vs. Megalon (preorder) - 11.29
Horrors of the Black Museum - 9.11
Mystery Team - 8.79
Mythbusters Collection 4 - 12.02
Tales from the Darkside Final Season - 13.55
Titan Maximum - 10.36
TNA Wrestling: Cross the Line Vol. 3 - 13.49 (note: NOT included in sale)
Vampire Circus - 13.40
Venture Bros Season 4, Vol. 1 - 11.99
Venture Bros Season 4, Vol. 2 - 12.50
WWE: Ricky Steamboat - Life Story of the Dragon - 13.31
WWE: Shawn Michaels - Heartbreak & Triumph - 13.99
TOTAL: 171.88

... AND, I feel I must credit this sale with helping me find cheaper prices at Amazon on two other purchases, far cheaper than what I was originally going to drop on the DD sale ...

Animaniacs Vol. 2 - 11.86 (28.86 at DD)
Masters of the Universe: Complete Second Season - 11.49 (15.99 at DD)
Quatermass Xperiment - 15.99 (just because)
TOTAL: 39.34

So hot on the heels of a personal challenge - "What can you get for $120?" ... which resulted in 18 movies - I am DONE for 2011! Now, if everything in the DD order gets here at a decent time, in one piece, I'll sing praises for DD irrationally & devoutly for all time, even in the face of detrimentally conflicting evidence to the contrary.

Hmm, at that price I may need to pick up the Venture Bros.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

I ordered Godzilla vs Megalon and Destroy All Monsters Blu-rays for about $16 each. That's all for now but I'll probably find a couple more before the end of the sale.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

It sounds to me an ideal solution would be to have both POSITIVE and NEGATIVE threads about DD since they tend to naturally polarize. Seeing as how DD is a sponsor of this site I doubt it could happen though. I would enjoy reading both.

Those are excellent deals on the BU and Synapse titles, too bad I already have all of them.

Thanks...found I could get them cheaper elsewhere. A few others I picked out, I remembered the new blueray bins that my walmart setup and even with tax, it is cheaper there.

DVD Price Search and Froogle. Helpful as they are, occasionally I find titles not listed or properly updated on DVD Price Search (ex: they never added the 2nd non-collectible pressing of the MST3K 20th Anniversary box set, it only pulls up the expensive OOP version with the collectible Crow figure).

Another tip: sometimes I find it's simpler to search an item by its UPC #. You'll find much more direct results for a title like "The Baby" instead of wading through every movie with the word "Baby" in the title (or the self-titled CD of the black metal band Thorns). It also pulls up items that didn't show up in the title search because the retailer misspelled them.

Btw, has anyone mentioned that this same sale is going on over at DVD Planet?

Note: I've also noticed that Scorpion Releasing's upcoming Humongous & The Carpenter DVDs are $11.27. Here's a list of the Upcoming Releases that are part of the sale, starting with newest release date.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

Just came from Deep Discount, I have about 15 DVDs in my Wish List, of which 3 of them are included in this 25% sale, and they marked all 3 of them up for this sale so that their 25% off makes them roughly the same price they were before the sale. That's bullshit. -kd5-

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

I don't know what all the complaining is about. There are deals to be had. I found a bunch of stuff, not to mention preorder items that are on sale which is something they didn't do in the past. I was able to cancel an order with Amazon that saved me $12. Obviously if you can get it cheaper elsewhere then do so. No doubt DD has had its issues in the past but DD has done a good job picking themselves up from the muck. It's never going to be the glory days again but I feel they've found a suitable middle ground.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

Is $37.05 a good price for season 2 of Glee on BD or should I hold out for a better deal elsewhere?

That's a pretty good price especially if you don't want to wait. The cheapest Amazon had it has been 42.99. I would guess the price will drop in time or possibly Black Friday. In comparison, the first season is currently at 33.41 at Amazon.

Re: Deep Discount 25% Sale

All right, I placed what will probably be my one and only order.

Frankenhooker (BD) $11.47
Maniac Cop (BD) $11.16
42nd Street Forever Vol. 2 (DVD) $9.82
42nd Street Forever Vol. 3 (DVD) $9.82
TOTAL: $42.28

I think they are great prices on all those titles, so I'm happy with what I was able to get.

Apparently I'm pickier about the DVDs I buy (and/or the money I pay for them). There are ones that I want and ones that I could care less about. Of the ones I want, 3 were included in the 25% Off sale, and DD marked them up before they put them on sale so that 25% off put them at the same price they were before the sale. I don't call that picking themselves up from the muck, I call it wallowing a little deeper in it.

I'm sure there are deals to be had with this 25% Off sale but not by me, and that was all I was trying to say. -kd5-

You're probably not any more picky than me about your collection, and you're probably not any more anxious to find better deals - rather, you're simply interested in different titles than those available during this sale. I happen to have recently become very interested in German cinema, particularly postwar German cinema, and I also happen to be interested in some of the Animeigo Japanese dramas, so this sale does have a few titles of interest to me at pretty good prices.

In other words, I appreciate that you don't find anything interesting in this sale - the sale undoubtedly has deteriorated in the past few years - it's just kind of lame to suggest that those who are finding titles of interest somehow have lower standards for what constitutes a bargain or for what belongs in their collection.

I don't agree with your first comment at all as you make it sound like most folks don't care about what they buy or the cost. I care about finding deals and I found some great ones. Are there other DVDs and Blu-rays I'd like to get cheap, of course, but I don't expect DD to offer everything under the sun for a bargain.
And just because they don't have your specific three titles at a price that makes you happy doesn't mean their "wallowing a little deeper in it." It's too bad if they raised the prices on some items but if your titles are cheaper somewhere else, get them there. I have been pleasantly surprised by this sale.

Just ... JUST ... got an email saying that 13 of those 15 titles were shipping today. The two holdouts being the preorders, of course.

Let's see when these show up.
