Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet- $46.99 Amazon DOTD 4/26

Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet-$46.99 (yesterday's price $64.99). This is the lowest this box set has ever been.

Product Description: This is a wonderful series from the BBC about everyone's favorite social climber, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet"). Her house is spick-and-span. Richard, her long-suffering and hen-pecked husband, keeps the car in immaculate condition (under Hyacinth's every-watchful eye). The empty milk bottles sparkle on the doorstep after their obligatory rinse in the dishwasher. To Hyacinth's horror and shame, most of her family is dead common, living together in a rundown house that looks like a junkyard. Sister Daisy and her husband, Onslow, are out-and-out slobs while another other sister, Rose, is an aging tart, and Daddy is not quite "all there". At least she is proud of her 3rd sister, Violet, the one "with the Mercedes, a sauna, and room for a pony" although Violet's husband is a cross-dresser and somewhat of an embarrassment to Hyacinth. However, she loves them all, and never fails to rush to their assistance when they need her help. Often it is Daddy that has got into an embarrassing situation which Hyacinth (or Richard) has to always solve.

I've heard really good things about this series. Has anyone seen it?

It has a good cast, decent characters, and a good premise. Unfortunately, it gets really repetitive. It's a solid show for a dozen episodes or so, but it repeats the same jokes and basic scenarios over and over with only slight differences. At one point I had to watch an episode really closely because it seemed like I had seen it before... it turns out it was actually a new episode, but it had almost the exact same opening scenes as a previous episode.

Netflix has every episode available to stream, and they're also all on disc. I was getting bored by the time I was about halfway through the series, but I stuck it out. I wouldn't really call it a must-have set.

I agree...but I figure that at this price even if I only watch half of them it is still a great buy.

That's a solid price for this set as I got mine from Deep Discount for 90 bucks a few years ago. Absolutely get it at that price and the series is decent.

Yes, I've seen and own it. I'm a big fan of British comedy series and feel that this is one of the better ones. Yes, it can feel repetitive but it's no different in that regard to most/many/all comedy series. All have some "catchphrase" or repeat situations because it's what people like. For what it's worth, "Keeping Up Appearances" was #12 on a list of "Britain's Best Sitcom" as voted on by viewers. For the price today it's a very good deal.

I love the series but interesting enough, I keep bypassing this set and buying other BBC series instead. I want to pick this up but damn, there are so many Amazon sales this week!
