Sony Screen Classics on Sale at DD
 

Sony's Screen Classics, their manufacture-on-demand DVD titles, are on sale through March 31 at DD for $11.96 each. They normally retail for $20, and I've never seen them on sale for anywhere near this price before. There's not nearly as many of these titles as Warner Archive, but as far as I can tell, all 125 or so of them are included in the sale.

DD has a lot of other Sony titles on sale as well, some of them at decent prices. The Martini movies are $11.09. Film noir 1 & 2 box sets are $34.07; Bad Girls of Film Noir 1 & 2 are $15.55. Most other titles are at good but not great sale prices.

I know DD has gotten a lot of bad press, but my order from the MGM sale got to me within a week, and I've never had any problems with them.

The most recent Columbia (Sony) Pictures Classics releases - about 25 titles - are not yet listed at the DD website. Hopefully they will be added before the sale is over.

I have actually never done business with them, but admit I stay away because of all the bad reviews here.

I haven't ordered from DDD since the last "real" 20% sale, but I'm willing to give it a shot. If they screw it up it's not like I don't have options. They are the first and only place I have seen Sony MOD titles offered at sale prices. I think they were around $15 during the last DDD sale, so this $12 price point is the lowest they have ever been, crushing prices at Amazon, Oldies and the Sony website by $5-$10 per title.

At those prices, I'll probably bite on one or two. When the MOD stuff gets down to near 10 bucks, I'm willing to dip my toe in.

I thought about ordering based on those prices, but the fact that most of these titles are listed as being out of stock isn't a very good indicator.

Considering that these are manufactured on demand, they don't stay out of stock very long. DD handles the shipping for Warner Archive, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did for Sony as well, so there's a good chance they can run off whatever they need to fill orders.

And I ordered about 15 titles during their MGM 4.49 sale and all of them arrived within two weeks of placing the order (a couple were out of stock when I first placed the order). I've never had any problems with their shipping.

I realize that these are MOD titles but even many of the Warner Archive titles that were listed as being in stock during the last big sale took forever to ship. We're talking about the new, 'improved' DD here.

All of my items shipped today, March 10, five days after I placed my order. At this point criticism of DD seems unwarranted. I'm ordering more MOD titles before the end of the month.

Likewise, I put an order in with DDD even though I've had some bad experiences with them over the last year (as many here). But since they are supposed to be under new management, I figured I'd give them one last chance to make good.

Anyway, I got notice today that my order had shipped, about seven or so days since I placed the order. Now we shall see if it really shipped and gets here in a reasonable time, or if they are just shining me and it shows up in three to six more weeks. As it used to when they said an order had "shipped" when in fact they clearly had just sent it for processing to the warehouse, who would then sit on it for another two weeks.

All my titles shipped out by today as well....very happy I placed my order with them.

I placed an order on March 5 for one MOD title and one regular title. The regular title (BLACK IRISH) shipped 0n March 7 and I got it today. I got a shipping notice on the MOD title (MICKEY ONE) today.

Though it took months I got all I ordered from the 2 for 1 sales that everyone complained about. DD is under new ownership so past complaints really are meaningless . I will be ordering some Columbia MOD from this sale such as A Day In The Death of Joe Egg and Ladies In Retirement.

I received my complete set of 10 MOD discs today, March 17, 12 days after placing the order. No complaints from me, considering a second order before the sale ends.

I placed my order for 6 MOD titles and 3 pressed titles on March 22. They shipped separately. The MOD titles arrived on March 29 and the pressed titles arrived on the 30th.

I've never had a problem with any of DD's shipments.
