Classic DVD Box Set drops on Amazon.com - December 2010
 

The following are price drops for classic box sets.

Every December, Amazon typically drops their prices for their classic sets. So, hopefully those of us who try to hunt them down, can chime in on the various sales taking place. (Note: It's already known that a few of the Warner sets like vol. 1-4 Gangster sets, Bette Davis v3, Forbidden Hollywood v2-3, Brando, Dean, Doris Day, Esther Williams, etc. went on sale before Thanksgiving and are still on sale right now). But here are some new ones:

SONY/COLUMBIA:

The Sony sets have an MSRP of $25 so they would have to get down under $12.50 (>50% off) for me to start getting excited. Right now they are a little over 40% off- nothing really spectacular imo.

The Warner sets, in comparison, are a much better bargain at the moment.

For Sony, 40% is pretty good. But for the ones listed...they usually hit $16.99 but first time I have seen them under $16.99. But the Warner sale on BF/Thanksgiving week on the wb.shop was very impressive. I would have never expected them to go down to $11.24. Too bad I bought most of them through Amazon days earlier.

Oh...and to bring up something, has anyone who ordered from Amazon last week checked the status of their shipments. I have had two ordered last Tuesday and both were lost in shipment courtesy of something called ONTRAC. I have never had that problem with UPS, so I was shocked to see this.

Fortunately, Amazon is great to work with and will ship me a new copy of the items lost (unfort. they'll get here in 2 weeks, a few days right before Christmas instead of a few days from today). But I've never had that experience before. So, some may want to check their shipment status if they ordered some of these WB sets last week.

They have the Samuel Fuller set on sale for $36.99 (54% off). Is that the cheapest its been? I'm debating whether or not to bite.

Greetings Cody, this past Spring DD had it for $32 (while the other Sony/Film Foundation sets were going around $21. It's one set that hasn't really gone down too much in price at all though and I ended up getting it at $32.

Nice!! But also the Charlie Chaplin Short Comedy Classics - The Complete Restored Essanay & Mutual Collection - DVD (July 8, 2003) is down to $29.49

As for the Rosselini War Trilogy, one can hold out for the B&N Criterion sale. It went down to $34.99 I believe.

So far nowhere near as good as last year's holiday sale which saw nearly every WB Signature Collection and classic box set at drastically reduced prices. The WB Shop had tremendous prices this year, beating even Amazon's of last year, but still not equaling the variety of titles that Amazon offered a year ago.

I agree...by now nearly every classic it seemed were on sale. I was hoping the Forbidden Hollywood 1 would go down or even the Noir sets. Personally, I'm hoping for more Bette Davis, Crawford, Grable, Stanwyck sets go down in price. Still, the sets that were on wbshop.com for $11.24 were a big surprise.

Deep discount has it on Amazon as third party for $25.99 (+$2.98 shipping) but you guys know how they are with the speed of their shipping....
