Now waitlisted. I'm a little surprised by this, since this was so popular for the year or so after it came out that I figured most people who wanted it would have it already. But the price is indeed very good, and BBC titles are typically not cheap.

It would have been nice if it were the BD version, yes. And I would have been sorely tempted to get it if it were. But the DVD has one advantage over the BD: it has bonus features that the BD omits. So this would be yet another title where I'd have to keep both versions, already tough to do in my space-challenged collection.

If anybody here took advantage of this deal, you got an excellent package at a great price.

But doesn't Discovery just have the Sigourney Weaver (Planet Earth) and Oprah Winfrey (Life) narrations? Gotta be careful with which product you're getting if that matters to you. Consensus seems to be that the Attenborough narration is preferable on both sets.

Dammit, Discovery! The title "Life on Earth" makes me think they have David Attenborough's groundbreaking 1979 series of that name that basically kicked off his ongoing production of "Life" and "Planet" series. But no, it's Discovery's name for a boxed set of some of the more recent series.

And then I see they have "Blue Planet: Seas of Life" on Blu-ray and I get excited again... only to see Pierce Brosnan listed as a narrator.

A decent region 1 release of the classic Life on Earth series is badly needed, as is Attenborough's The Living Planet. I have the existing DVD of that series, which has a pretty poor transfer and slightly edited episodes.

I haven't checked amazon.co.uk lately, but I remember seeing both of these on DVD in the UK, as well as some other BBC Natural History Unit productions that haven't seen release on these shores.

I know Attenborough's body of work with the BBC is vast, so expecting all of it to be released on DVD and/or BD is not realistic, but I'd like to see all the major series (at least) available in good quality.

But in real money, you still ended up paying more than it is now, around $30. And by now, I mean yesterday when it was cheaper.

It's been a while since I've posted on here, I just got a PS3 and was thinking of picking up Planet Earth and Life on Bluray from Amazon, they are currently $35. Is that the cheapest they go for? Thanks.

I missed the lightning deal & didn't open my Discovery Channel email to see the Mon. sale (although I wouldn't have wanted the Weaver narration anyway), but clicking on the link above saw that Amazon currently has the set listed for $29.99.

Not as good as the posted deal, but not bad either for those who don't have the set.
